X360 Key - Does It Stream Movie content From External Hard Drives In HD?

If I get x360key Can I play back movies on my xbox 360 from the hard drive I use for game storage (the external one plugged into x360 key)?

If so what formats can I play - Avi, mp4 MKV, Vob, ISO? What is the max resolution compatible for each format with this feature? Will it display 1080p HD & Blu Ray content steamed from the external hard drive?

    Thanks!

You can play movies from a external hdd without any mods anyway...
I've played movies that were around 4 GB 720p but should be able to play bigger....

Yeah but that was Avi format only from a Fat32 format drive - so it was really picky about whatever it played. 720p sounds good though but I want to be able to play anything and on an osx drive really.

Id also look here because you will find that it supports more than avi containers.

Video Formats Support By XBOX360 (Spring '07 Update) - Xbox 360 & Xbox Forums

    http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-3...ch-dvds-movies

for some stupid reason the xbox doesn't support NTFS but you can however format the drive to hfs+ ( Mac OS Extended volume) which is a macintosh format which the xbox supports and will except files over 4gb...

If you are using a pc then you will need to use a program called macdrive or similar to format the drive though.

Thanks a lot, I've been searching for that info but couldn't find it. That's just the info I wanted.

Lack of vob support and a max file size of 4gb are the only major limitations it seems - really annoying limiting it at 4gb unless you use wmv and windows media player 11 - has anyone tried playing h.264 or mpeg-4 over 4gb in size?

No real limits on h.264 resolution then and not bad for mpeg-4 either. Avi support must have been added as the thread doesn't mention it but the 2nd link does. Excellent

That format is good for me as I'm on OSX (although odd from the company that made windows!) - Is there a recommended hard drives list for which ones are most compatible? (like with the wii) Will any size up to 3tb be fine?
