Xbox 360 Will Be Around for More than 2 Years, Microsoft Believes

Despite rumors that Microsoft is putting the finishing touches on the next Xbox console - the oft-rumored Xbox 720 - the company is quite confident in the current device, the Xbox 360, which has at least two more great years ahead of it, according to the head of Microsoft's Game Studios, Phil Spencer.

E3 2012 came and gone this week and, even if many believed we'd get our first glimpses at some of the next generation consoles this week, neither Sony nor Microsoft opted to show their future devices.

What's more, according to Microsoft's Game Studios head, Phil Spencer, the Xbox 360 will still be around for more than two years, as it's still selling great and many big games will come out for it.

"Right now the Xbox 360 is really healthy and it's doing incredibly well," he told GameSpot. "I think the 360 has a lot more than two years [left]. It has legs for a long time."

Spencer emphasized that Microsoft is going to continue supporting the Xbox 360 for quite some time as it wants to capitalize on the surge in popularity experienced by the device in recent years.

"Microsoft entered this space with the original Xbox 11 years ago, and we're committed for the long-term," he added. "The nice thing about the Xbox 360 right now is we're the number one console globally. We're able to bring in new content and still support the best of the core games."

The Microsoft executive is also confident that more and more great experiences will start arriving on the Xbox 360, saying that, "It's a platform that has really reached scale; this is the time when you really see the great content showing up."

During its E3 2012 press conference, Microsoft showcased big games, like Halo 4, but also presented upcoming features for the Xbox 360, like SmartGlass.
