Wode USB Issue

I have installed a wode today for my daughters's Xmas present. Its largely working but I have one issue:

1) Ripping from a game to the SD card works perfectly
2) Playing the ripped game from the SD card works well
3) Playing in FLat mode works


I am however unable to get it to see any USB device.

My main external disk is an externally powered Western Digital 500GB Passport which is externally powered. I have tried this with EXT3, NTFS and finally a small FAT32 partition. At no time is the disk seen either to write to or to play a game from.

I have also taken the micro SD card that is working in the SD slot and put it into a USB adapter, When I do this it is no longer seen by the WODE.

I have reseated all connections including those on the display (twice) and am running the latest firmware (which upgraded from the SD card with no problem).

So in summary the USB to me appears dead...

Any suggestions?

One or two but first a quick question, where are you plugging your USB hard drives into?

USB drives need to go into the WODE unit on the side and not the Wii unit. I am sure you have not done that but lets get that little error out of the way for now shall we.


Moving on.

What we know is that your WODE installation is correct, simply because you are able to rip to SD card and launch games via SD card. That is good.

Could you check to see if the USB connector on the WODE base unit is correctly lined up. To test the USB connector take the LCD part out of the WODE base and connect directly to the PCB and test if that works.


Normally when I see WD hard drives I would just write the fault down to that horrid firmware found on the WD drives. But you used a SD card that was working and an adaptor that resulted in nothing being seen.

Things to do.

Flash your WODE to the latest update.
Try to connect the USB drive again.


When you post back here please include all the details from the info pane of the LCD.

yes I'm plugging into the USB connector on the Wode LCD not into the Wii but worth checking!

I've tried connecting the drive directly into the LCD board (i.e. out of the base unit) to check for alignment problem, but that has made no difference. I've also reseated both the flat and USB cable on the LCD unit again with no success.

Lastly I've also tried with a USB flash drive (which I also tried yesterday but forgot to mention) again with no success.

I'd already upgraded the firmware yesterday and the details form the screen are:

Boor Ver: 01.01
Wode Ver: 2.5A
FPGA 2.00
H/W Ver 1


When I did the firmware upgrade I used the NTFS r/w version - is it worth trying the r/0 version or given it can;t see the USB device is that a waste of time?


I'm concluding that this is probably a hardware issue - probably with the LCD unit - does that make sense?

Please contact your vendor and arrange a swap out of the defective LCD board. They will have spares and if they query just refer them to this thread.

SD card works so sadly for now that is the only way you are going to be able to play your games.
