THinking about removing my WIKey2....and installing a WODE.

I love my Wiikey2...and burning backups of my games is always a good option in order to keep my originals Pristine...but the WODE has me intrigued!!

I already have a few 500 ang 650 Gig small protable HD's lying around...so that's not an issue.

Would I be "Loosing" any capabilities going this route and removing my WiiKey2?

Is flat Wode working well enough to be able to play my backups without concern??

    THanks!!!!

The WODE is simply a Wii Optical Emulator Devise. In other words it makes the Wii think that your HDD is a DVD drive. Flat mode is working fine and will play DVD discs - you can set the region as needs dictate if your Wii is 4.1 or lower. Yes back ups work just fine - not sure why you would think that they do not.

So if you have clean ISO's or WBFS of clean ISO games then they will all play no problem from your HDD. If your Wii is 4.1 and lower in firmware then all out of region games will play without and soft modding.
But again the important thing to remember is the the WODE plays 100% 1:1 ISO's. It does not play all patched ISO's nor cISO games. Disc ripping is a feature that will be released in the next few days or so. We are at the last phase of your testing and the WODE will be able to rip directly to your hard drive (not NTFS formatted HDD)

Since I do not know what your WiiKey2 allows you to do I can not answer.

I play nearly every single Wii game that has been released on my WODE without any soft mods. For one game (no idea why this is) it will work fine on 4.2 Wii but gives me problems on a 4.1 Wii. But we are looking at that game to see if there is a bug in our code.

    Hope that helps mate.

    Ok...I just ordered one....
    Thanks for the info!!!

I really don't play out of region games....but like the idea of being able to run off the HD as well as my backup disks!

I'm looking foward to the added Ripping ability!!

    Thanks!!!

    One issue left...

I have always understood that soldered modchips will always be faster in playback of graphic intensive games like World at war, then any solderless setup that goes between the drive and the Wii boards.

Now I know that MOST of the time I will be using the WODE in HD mode, but when in "Flat" mode when I play burned backups in the DVD drive, It looks like the WODE operates like any other solderless Mod.

Has any testing been done to confirm this?

If it is true, and the playback of true DVD's is limited in "Flat" mode, I would assume this is what would be the "trade Off" for having the ability to use HD images.

This is also the main reason I have originally gone with a soldered WiiKey2.

Thanks so much for your time!

Good going!!!! You will absolutely love your Wode!!! It was the best investment I ever made, other than my wii. I have the new Wode with 2 usb power cables and a softmodded wii. I use wiiflow to rip my games right to my 1.5tb HDD. works flawlessly. I am excited to have the disk ripping availibility, but its not needed. I can play any region including korean without a hitch. It is soooooooo nice to have all my games on the HDD, without worring about scratching my original discs. Flat mode lets u use the original discs, but I have not really used it yet. As soon as u get it, upgrade the firmware, they all come with fw1. You will not be sorry about getting the Wode. Due to it running Linux, its fully upgradeable, and is compatible with all past, present, and future wii firmware releases. Let us know when u get it, and how u like it. CONGRATS!!!

AS far as I know he is. To get the best of both worlds so to speak you keep it in and use Flat-mode to get the 6x.
