Guide: New Super Mario Bros (NSMB) not working on your wode?

More then a few people have been having problems with New Super Mario Bros on their wodes.

Until they're able to fix this, here's a way around it so you can play your backup.

We will be using NeoGamma, CIOSrev14 and the included WIP Patches from davepm's guide at http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-games/28...ario-bros.html
 
1) Get your SD Card out, and plugged into your pc.
2) Go to NeoGamma R8 beta test - GBAtemp.net and download the latest NeoGamm (Beta 17 as of this writing).
3) Download and open the archive
4) Place the NeoGamma folder from the archive into SD Card:\apps\ so once this is done it should look like below.
5) Create a new folder on the root of the SD Card called NeoGamma (Do not confuse this with the NeoGamma folder in apps).
6) Copy the 3 included .wip files from the archive into SD:\NeoGamma
7) Start the Wii with your SD card inserted, and go into the Home Brew Channel.
8) Load NeoGamma
9) In NeoGamma arrow down to "Config Options", and match your settings as follows by using the left/right arrows on the d-pad and up/down.
Hook Type: None
Ocarina On: No
Debugger: No
Altern. .dol: No
Search Patches: Yes
Storage Device: SD
Save Config: Yes
 
10) Click "Return to Menu"
11) Load your dvd backup with the wode in flat mode or select the ISO from your HDD and load it.
12) In NeoGamma, select Launch Game on DVD.
13) Enjoy

Please note, you may have many other files on your SD card as well, the above is simply to show the files you *must* have on your card to do this, and their respective locations.

New Method
1) MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (dright iso patcher)
2) Extract and run the patcher
3) Click on the window and select your NSMB iso, let it patch.
4) Copy ISO back to your SD/Thumb Drive/External/Whatever your using.
5) Enjoy

Just did this, played for 30 minutes w/o issue.

While the guide is most likely accurate....

Most folks are purchasing the WODE so that they don't have to softmod the Wii :)

Considering I bought mine mainly for GC iso support and "favorites" selection, I can see hanging onto my usb loader channel for a while longer...

I'm just curious why it doesn't work. The install vid shows an unpatched version playing fine, and that iso420 review said nothing needed a patch.

Not to sure, it works for some and not for others.

I know Favs and myself are having the issue, possibly more.

some folks are reporting that turning updates "on" in the Wii settings fixes the problems... YMMV

I tried this, and it was a no go for me.

Check my orginal post, I updated it with a new non-softmod instructions.

Plays direct from the disc channel w/o issue.

Yeah it crashes after ~5mins for me on the WODE.

Will try turning "updates" on then if that doesnt work will try that patch, and report back here.

i just ordered a wode and i already have a copy of nsmb. does that mean i'll have problems playing that game using the original game disk? i thought i could use a hdd for backed up games or use the wii disk drive to play games i have on disk? if i put in a disk and it asks for a system update, could update without having any problems with the wode? does this only apply to games on the hdd or does it apply to both disk and hdd games? im a little confused.

It seems to me that the OP was comparing a softmod solution to the WODE solution. He wasn't suggesting that the WODE solution was to softmod.

That patch worked a treat. No more problems for NSMB and it only took 60 seconds to install :D

@ the OP...the way I did it, which worked fine: Instead of copying the ISO off the external/usb/sd patching it and pasting it back, it is very possible to simply patch the ISO while it is on the external/usb/sd. Worked without a hitch for me. (can get annoying if you have a slow USB, copying 4GB off and on)

No, you wont have problems playing off the original disc because when the game does the check every 5 minutes, it will detect the disk inside and not crash. If you however ripped your game onto a hard drive or burnt it onto a disc (and playing it via WODE), it would crash every 5 mins (hard drive) or not read at all (disc).

I don't think so - the patch version was an EDIT. The way I see it is that at first, the OP said that the only way to play NSMB on the wii was via softmod...then they found the patch and so they updated the first post.
