I really want to buy a wode. I just can not think of a good reason to do so.

I have a softmodded wii, which I hardly use at all. I use a 32 GB usb stick, which can contain plenty of games. I have more games than I will ever play on a wii. I very rarely play games. There will be no new games I absolutely need to play. It will not bother me if I never add a game to the ones I already have.

A wode will allow me to remove the dvd drive, if I'm correct. Strange as it may sound, it really bugs me to have a dvd player inside my wii and never use it. I stopped using optical discs years ago. They take up too much space, are too expensive per gigabyte used, I suspect they off gas too much chemicals compared to sd cards and hard drives, they can contain too little data per unit and need to be switched too frequently and they damage too easily.

I already have an eeebox as a bittorrent machine, I do not use wireless connections and have several computers running linux. I really like the wode as a gadget, an arm mcu and 512 mb memory, running linux. But what do I need it for? Will anything fascinating be added to the software of the wode in the future?

I'm thinking of getting a wode.

I believe the wode was made for my situation. Im not comfortable with softmodding because of my lack of experience. I believe i could do it with all the guides and step by steps but still dont feel comfortable with it. The wode will do the same as a soft mod but costs money.

So if i get a wode, and a 1tb usb drive(that has its own power supply) what else do i need? Does the wode accept the same HDD's that are recomended for the soft modding or does the wode have special requirements? I've read a wireless game cube controller is almost a must for the wode. Do i need any special programs to get games in/out. I have dstt cards in all the DS's and if i can make a wode work like that it would be awesome.

Is the wode safe for a 6 and 9 year old to be messing or will they end up doing bad stuff to the wii?

Lots of questions in one post. With regard to kids of 6 years old - my girls use the Wii & WODE (4 and 6) but I feel more comfortable doing the selection my self. There are two main reasons for this. The first is the hardware. A Wii costs a few £'s as does the WODE. Kis will be kids, and an accident prevented with £250 odd worth of hardware is better than filling out an insurance claim if you get my drift. But no it is not possible to mess the WODE up if your kids play around with the settings. The worst case that might happen is your preferred settings will get altered and favourite list might get deleted. Given that it takes less than 10 secs to set up your WODE settings it is not the end of the world. Your 9 year old will be more than able to use the gamecube menu and remote.

Hard disk drives. I have to say that a 500GB HDD is more than sufficient. I run 147 games on that hard drive. Yes I have converted most of them (gamecube not so) to wbfs format to save space. All 147 games use a total of 238 GB. I fully recommend the Hitachi Signature seris. http://www.simpletech.com/content/Signature-Mini-Espresso-500-GB No problems reported at the WODE forum with this HDD yet.

Gamecube wireless is a good idea if you want to sit down and select your games. I picked up a £4.99 incl shipping just for that purpose. Not a Wavebird true but it does the job and does it well I must say.

Fully endorse WiiJohn on his recommendation. They also have a pretty good bundle going on the Gamecube wireless remote if you are interested. Or they were a few days ago.

Brick prevention without doubt. You really have to work hard to brick your Wii with the WODE.

    Brick recovery - No.
