    WODE and Error 002

After reading a few reviews and looking at some WODE tutorials I noticed that there are no settings for an Error 002 patch. Just wondering how the WODE avoids patching this error whereas softmod USB loaders require a patch...

Is it because the WODE emulates a Wii drive so the Wii (and Wii game) simply doesn’t know the difference between the original disc and the HDD backup, and therefore doesn’t need a patch as the Wii believes that it’s the original disc? Or does the WODE automatically fix / patch the error in the background without having to set something in the settings menu? Or am I completely off track altogether?

I Hope these questions aren’t so noobish that they get ignored!

Unlike other USB loaders the WODE fools the Wii into thinking that it is the DVD drive. WODE means Wii Optical Drive Emulator by the way. And that is exactly what it does. If you install a WODE there is no, let me repeat that no soft modding needed to play your 1:1 dumped games from a Hard drive. Sure if you want to get all fancy and have the WODEflow loader installed then you will need to have HBC and DVDx installed but that is all. Ultimately the WODE was created for those users who do not want to mod their Wii - it is really hard, if not impossible to brick your Wii if you have a WODE attached. Feel free to ask what ever questions you might have.

    Thanks for your response R_N_B

I’m aware what WODE means, I just needed to confirm whether I was on the right track or not. I wouldn’t have needed to ask this question if I had a better understanding of Error 002. There are thousands of posts offering fixes and patches to this error but I can’t find a detailed description of what it actually does. My assumption is that it’s an error thrown within a game when the game code references and locates a modified IOS or blocked security chip. I asked this sort of question in the newbie discussions forum a few days ago and it got deleted... I guess the mod must’ve thought it was another typical 002 question without fully reading what I was asking.

I have only ever got a Error 002 message with the WODE on the Beatles game when I was doing some beta testing for a firmware update. Other than that I do not recall every getting one. The thing to keep in mind is that the WODE just plays the games. And plays them from a FAT32, Ext3, NTFS or Mac OS type drives so it is all win win as far as I can see.

With every game that ever gave me an 002 error with GX the WODE has never given me one so +1 for hardmods.

@R_N_B: It’s unusual that you got an Error 002 during your beta testing of the WODE as I recently found out from gen3sf that Error 002 is triggered during an IOS mismatch. “The code checks the IOS under which the game is currently running against the game's TMD IOS request. If the IOSes do not match because software is "forcing" the game to load under a different IOS, an error 002 code may be displayed.” This should never occur with the WODE since no patched IOS or cIOS are utilised right? So it’s weird that you got one... unless it was triggered because you had some softmods at the time?

@Favs: Would you mind listing some of the games that didn’t work for you with USB Loader GX yet worked with the WODE? By looking at some of your past posts I get the impression that you were originally a soft modder who used GX up until recently. Can you let me know what convinced you to pursue the WODE hardmod option? I’m currently torn between softmodding and buying a WODE. One part of me really wants to tinker and play around with softmodding for fun, whereas the other half is my sensible side which suggests that the WODE might be a more efficient, stable, safer and future proofed solution. I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

Beatles was the game that gives an error two message on a virgin Wii with the WODE on update 2.00 if my notes are correct.

Well I did use a softmod and I managed to get all my games to run fine but then there where those which required alt dols to load which made it impossible for me to play the game the way I wanted too and when I saw the wode announced I got interested due to the possibilities of what it was capable of doing and because I saw it as being a step in the right direction for hardmods and because it also meant I wouldn't have to put up with things such as the 002 error, loading alt dols etc.

I will elaborate more but im typing with the iPod.

Thanks Favs. If you could elaborate later when you’re on a computer rather than your iPod that would be great.
