    Anyway, back to the original topic - The disc drive sometimes powers off when you eject/load a disc and you have to power cycle the Wii in order for it to work again.
    This is actually a common problem with some D2E (or even D2C) disc drives. For whatever reason, people get the "eject issue". There is no ultimate solution. However, some have said that the placement of the chip on the board affects the issue. I've encountered a Wii with that issue and for some reason it went away completely after I downgraded it to 3.2U. You may want to try that, no harm in trying.

    Yes you need to have the homebrew channel installed. What version Wii firmware do you currently have?

    and I'm being prompted for another upgrade as of last today,which I'm ignoring.

    Yeah, get your hands on Twilight Princess, burn it if need be (since you drive issue is intermittent), and downgrade to 3.2U. Also, I'd recommend that you install Starfall.
