Hi , i just got a second hand Wii with a modchip installed ..seller says it's Wiikey
Don't care much about it , actually i want to disable it .
How do i identify if my chip is Wiikey 1 or 2 , how do i disable it ( temporarily ) ?
I want to softmod my console and make some tests in Neogamma , the modchip would only interfere with them .
And also you can have both a hard and softmodded wii. They actually work well together if you didn't want to mess with opening the wii. Check their website. There's a combination of buttons for some to access the chips menu I think. I've never used one
The modchip will not interfere with neoggamma. Neogamma uses cIOS to run the games, a modchip does not.
Ah but some enable/disable key presses interfere with other things (most common involving Priiloader conflicts with said button pushes on the console).

I won't open up the console , maybe those update discs on wiikey.cn will recognise my chip . About disabling it i found this How to Disable Wiikey | eHow.com , looks pretty complicated for something that should be in the menu . My software is 4.0 , if i update with Wiikey on ..i read the console might suffer some kind of brick , untill the chip is removed totally .
You say it does not interfere.. i haven't tested yet but if you use Gecko 1931 and insert a backup disc , will it run ? Normally no but with modchip who knows ? Also how does it interfere with Darkcorp ? I bought the console mainly because it has boot2 , i'd like to play around with Sneek and a lot of things , i thought it's good to have a chip just in case but now i realise it might interfere with my "pure softmod " tests .
There's no reason for Gecko, or at least I should say no support from this site if that particular mention is for the purposes of cheating. I'd stick with 4.0, you can have the best of both worlds re: softmod/hardmod. The purpose of DarkCorp on a hardmod? That's illogical if you have it setup that way.
My wii has a wiikey2 on it. Its also softmodded with neogamma on it. When you insert the game, you can still open up your neogamma or what ever loader you wish to use. The wiikey doesn't affect anything that has to do with softmodding. I have some games that will black screen when playing through the disc channel but if I switch over to neogamma, it loads just fine. So the wiikey won't have any thing with you testing out stuff on neogamma and so forth.
my wii has had a wiikey on from when i bought it and it was japanese and i never use the wiikey anymore but its still there and ive changed the reigon to pal
