Abysmal compatibility of GCN games on wiikey2+Pal 4.2E Wii. Help?

    Hi

I bought a new black 4.2E Wii, for the purpose of playing gamecube games. I always opt for the NTSC versions of the games, because they usually have progressive out support, the PAL ones almost always don't have this.

On my old wii, equipped with wiikey1, this worked perfectly. However i moved and couldn't take my old one with me.

This new one is horrific. Most of the games don't even launch, the ones that do have visual errors (flashing lines on top of the screen), sometimes they hang.

I am burning them on Verbatim DVD-R's, with lowest speed possible. The speed/quality of the disk is not an issue anyway, because if i launch them via gecko, they start working perfectly. (examples of games that give a black screen : zelda wind waker, zelda twilight princess; games that have glitches: star wars rogue leader 2)

One game in particular - Geist, tries to load, but then when it starts to play the menu music (which is streamed), i just hear about a second of static, the drive stops spinning, and the game errors out on a DRE. This happens both with the PAL and NTSC versions of the game. gecko doesn't help it either.

I tried downgrading to 4.1E on a different Wii, and transplanting the drive, the effect was exactly the same.

The drive is a D2C2, wiikey2 is installed via wiiclip2, the installation was done by a store. I don't have cMIOS installed, no priiloader too. Only cIOS for Wii games on USB and HBC. Wiikey has 1.3 firmware on it, region-free and streaming fix options enabled.

I am now running out of options. Anybody has any suggestions/ideas on what's going on?

Why would i want/need cMIOS? That's what the wiikey is for!

........ Well you do know that cios for the wii correct, well the gamecube part of the wii also need it own separete version which is called cmios. The fuction of the wiikey is to allow your wii to play games on burned media. The wiikey does not magically look/download the required cmios/cios/ios needed. You have to do that stuff manually. Thus the reason you need to install cmios.

btw next time a mod helps you out, try not to be an ass. You might get hit was an infraction/ban hammer.

I'm sorry if i sounded like an ass, that wasn't my intention. However, my logic still stands, at least on the grounds that mo old wii+wiikey1 that had 4.2 never needed a cMIOS to properly function with gamecube games.

The fuction of the wiikey is to allow your wii to play games on burned media.
In fact cMIOS just does that too. Except it puts the drive into the DVD-reader mode, so the console will accept the disk. This is totally unnecessary when one has a modchip (at least for gamecube games)

The wiikey does not magically look/download the required cmios/cios/ios needed.
Because none is needed, and it couldn't do that anyway. It just mingles with the disk header and spoofs BCA values.

On another note, i searched thru this subforum, and found that there were a bunch of people just like me, having problems with cross-compatibility. One of them had to get rid of starfall (i don't have it), the other ones remained unresolved.

okay is this on the black wii? Cause for as far as i know, the black wii shouldn't be able to even play burn media unless you change out the drive. And if it is not on a black wii but with firmware 4.2, it should only be able to play same region games. But I'm sure you know both of this already. My wii with the wiikey2 in it has no problem playing gc games. But I have an old wii on firmware 3.2
