Abysmal compatibility of GCN games on wiikey2+Pal 4.2E Wii. Help?
Hi
I bought a new black 4.2E Wii, for the purpose of playing gamecube games. I always opt for the NTSC versions of the games, because they usually have progressive out support, the PAL ones almost always don't have this.
On my old wii, equipped with wiikey1, this worked perfectly. However i moved and couldn't take my old one with me.
This new one is horrific. Most of the games don't even launch, the ones that do have visual errors (flashing lines on top of the screen), sometimes they hang.
I am burning them on Verbatim DVD-R's, with lowest speed possible. The speed/quality of the disk is not an issue anyway, because if i launch them via gecko, they start working perfectly. (examples of games that give a black screen : zelda wind waker, zelda twilight princess; games that have glitches: star wars rogue leader 2)
One game in particular - Geist, tries to load, but then when it starts to play the menu music (which is streamed), i just hear about a second of static, the drive stops spinning, and the game errors out on a DRE. This happens both with the PAL and NTSC versions of the game. gecko doesn't help it either.
I tried downgrading to 4.1E on a different Wii, and transplanting the drive, the effect was exactly the same.
The drive is a D2C2, wiikey2 is installed via wiiclip2, the installation was done by a store. I don't have cMIOS installed, no priiloader too. Only cIOS for Wii games on USB and HBC. Wiikey has 1.3 firmware on it, region-free and streaming fix options enabled.
I am now running out of options. Anybody has any suggestions/ideas on what's going on?
