Some Wiikey v1 questions about updating and hardmod/softmod ups and downs

Is Wiikey v1 detectable by Nintendos updates? Can updating harm my wii if I just use burned discs from the right region? I have not had any problems playing games before, will there be? What is the upside of using softmod instead of hardmod like wiikey v1? Im sorry if this is asked before but i failed to find information by searching. And I am noob when it comes to this so try to explain noobish.

    Cheers,
    ekwathne

The chip is not detectable by Nintendo updates. I am updated to 4.2u. I play every game there is in my region (USA). I always patch the iso file so there is no update present, just to be on the safe side. I see no upside of softmods, but some might argue that. I have read threads where certain games will not play using the softmod, but I can't say for certain. If you are going to do a modchip, go with a newer chip like the WiiKey 2, Fusion or some other new chip. I also understand that softmods load slower, but I could be wrong. Perhaps someone who has had both methods could shed some light on that.

Thats nice to hear. I already have a wiikey v1 in my wii and I have been updating from the internet to this date, but I read so many different things about updating that I starts worrying.

Yeah, it is a little terrifying seeing how some update and get reports of a modified Wii(even on a non-modified Wii)

But since the 4.2 update, region free is gone(at least for Wii games, I have never gotten a clear answer if GC is too)

Well that has never been an issue for me. I allways make sure to download games with the right region for my wii.

I use WiU 1.1 to remove any updates and to check the size and region. You can even change regions with it.

If you change the region of an iso using Wiu or RegionFrii, etc will it then work even on 4.2U/4.3U?

Yes! I have changed a Japanese region to my region (USA) and it worked fine, except I could read the Japanese dialogue.
