    Question WiiKey 2 install issues

    Hi folks,

I installed a wiikey 2 onto a Japanese wii (D2B chipset). I soldered it in, and thought I did everything fine, but on power up instead of the red-blue-red-blue that I see on all the videos, I get a red-blue-red and it stays red.

I tried contacting the manufacturer, to see if this was a fault code or anything, but no luck.

I can load a burned Japanese game, but it wouldn't load a US retail games.

I don't have any clue what's happening. I just hope I didn't fry the chip.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you fried your chip just yet since you say you were able to japanese backup, if it had fried you could only use originals.

Did you go through all the steps of the install with the update and the congig disk?

I wasn't really aware there was any kind of "steps" beyond soldering the chip in place and running the config disc(which doesn't want to run and I get an error message)

Where do I find the steps? The manufacturer's website is extremely limited in info.

You have to do some google search, but here is what you're supposed to do.

    1. get the 1.2 config (make sure you get your region) disc...wiikey.cn is down right now.

    2. Burn the 1.2 config iso (size 1.3gb), put it into your Wii.

    3. Wii sees this disc as a gamecube game. if i try to load it, the system may freezes and needs to be hard reset.

    4. In the config menu you should change the option of updates to your region or to none if you don't want you Wii to update at all

    5. Put in an original disk like Wii Sport to properly set the region for your Wii.

    6. Voila, you should be able to play most back-up or original from any region.

Okay. I did most of those things.

Since its a Japanese wii, I got the japanese disc, and burned it.

It did recognize it as a gamecube game but when I try and run it I get an error message.

and another problem is I don't have a retail Japanese game disc on hand. Is this vitally necessary?

As I said in my point #3, it might freeze, so you have to do a hard reboot with the disk in, hopefully then you should be able to access it.

As far as the original game disk, I'm 95% sure it has to be original, I heard that you may be able to do it with a backup from your region but you have to make sure it is your region, otherwise you will most likely half brick your Wii and the only way to fix it will be to put in an original Pal game with an update on it higher than what you're already running. That should un-brick your system.

    Thanks for the help, I actually found the problem. One wire was soldered incorrectly... ^__^;;;

I've been staring at it for a few weeks and didn't see it until today.

Now I get the correct flash pattern and all the games show up.

I still have one or two minor issues though.

First, the updater disk(which used to tell me there was no wiikey installed) now loads and I get something along the lines of "Wiikey 2 updater 1.2" but thats it. No options or anything else.

Second, on one of the burned games I tested with, the game shows up on the main menu, I can head to the next menu(the one were you chose to launch or go back to the previous menu) and the game music loads. But when we try to launch the game it won't let us.

    Any ideas?

    either:
-- media issue; re-burn at lower speed.
-- out-of-region game; apply GEckoOS to play.
