    Pikmin update

    Hi guys.

Please excuse my ignorance but we all have to start somewhere.

I have recently downloaded and burned to DVD two games, Wii Music and Pikmin. Both of them try to update my Wii which is fitted with a genuine Wiikey and loaded with update 1.9s and config 1.9s. In both cases I disconnected my Wii from the mains before the update could complete so as not to 'brick' my machine and have not attempted to run the games again.

My question is, what will happen if I allow the update to take place and is there a way round this problem so I can play these two games or should I just forget them?

My Wii is a PAL version and both games are in PAL format.

Any 'simple' information would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks for looking in.

you wont brick your wii if you have both pal game and pal wii you will only brick if you update out of region ie us game pal wii or if you abort an update some games require update to play as long as you dont use soft mod you will be ok.

Thanks fella, so what you're saying is that an update will not brick a machine if it is a PAL console and a PAL game? I sure hope you are right. I'll give it a try.
I was obviously concerned because of the warning that appears on screen when the update starts.

i was the same ,did not want to update because i thought it may brick as for the warnings i am sure nintendo do it on purpose to scare you but when you do it for the first time you do get a little nervous but some games need update to run if you are on 3.4 you are already past the point of soft mod you need to keep it below 3.3 for trucha games but you could always downgrade in the future to 3.2 with soft mod if you wish.i have never bothered because all my games work except ssbb .

Thanks m8. I'm trying to load wiikey config 1.9 and am getting a list of options to turn on or off (ie update blocker etc), do I need a gamecube type controller to set it up? and what should be on or off?
As I said earlier, I'm using PAL backups on a PAL console only, no homebrew, no region free etc

sorry dont have wiikey i have d2sun, but update blocker is a program that takes the update from the game and replaces it with a blank space so if the game needs update to run it will not work, ie black or green screen after initial start screen you only need b blocker if you are useing out of region games. always try to stay in region and you will have no problem. sorry i could not help.

    Don't apologize m8, you've been most helpful.

If anyone can tell me if I need the Gamecube type controller to set up the config disc please let me know.

    Thanks again exupboy

yeah you need a gc controller to use the config disc but then you can use the update blocker in it so all is good

Can't you just use the reset button for the config disc. One press to move the cursor and long press to change the setting?

I don't know how wiikey 1 config disc works but that is how it works for wiikey 2.
