Big n00b, think I have an idea, but need some assurance

OK. A little background. I own a 360. Know everything about it. Firmware flashing, game burning etc. I know it all when it comes to the 360. Know nothing about the Wii. Played on one once. So my old friend approaches me and we start talking, he has a wii, I ask him if he ever thought of getting a modchip installed...long story short this is what we are looking at.

Using WiiTracker we have determined he most likely has a GC2-D2B chipset. He said he bought the Wii near when it first came out.

I am looking at the WiiKey2. This seems to have everything you need, the tools to take apart the Wii, and the chip...seems all good.

I am MORE than comfortable with a 5 wire install, after looking at some of the diagrams, they look really easy.

So I am thinking, take apart the Wii, I looked at some guides on the web, I can take apart my 360, I am sure I can handle the Wii. Install the modchip...I solder pretty much daily (just dumb shit) but yeah, I am good at soldering, have a nice iron, have done some stuff on my 360, not mod chip, but just soldering to PCB's and stuff, I am more than comfortable.

OK, I box back up the Wii. Now this is where I am not so sure of myself.

For playing games that aren't NTSC (which is my friends console) can I just burn a PAL game, pop it in, and play it? I saw Brick Blocker and Region Frii, and was wondering should I use either of those on the games before burning? Like for the 360, when you have an ISO, you run it thru a program that checks with an online database to verify the stealth files and that they are good...I don't think the Wii has anything like this, but I just want to make sure. Is it really as easy as getting an ISO, burning it using IMGBurn (what I use for my 360 games) and the popping it into the Wii? I am just a little uneasy, is there anything I should know before doing all of this? It just seems to easy...there has to be something I am missing.

I just remembered, what is the best media for games? On the 360 it is Made In Singapore Verbatim DVD+R DL discs...what about for the Wii? I am thinking Verbatim DVD-R discs, but I don't know...do single layer Verbs come from Singapore (best discs) and India (shitty quality) like...I don't know it is just this feeling I have that there is so much I don't know and it is going to fuck me over down the road.

EDIT: After talking to some guys on IRC, any DVD-R is good, they are better than DVD+R, burn at 4x, unless you have Verbatim, you can go 8x or 10x, still will be good. And Brick Block any non NTSC game...good so far?

You don't need brick blocker or region frii. If you don't want to go down to 3.2 and use homebrew your wiikey 2 will load out of region games (not all of them but you may never come across one that doesn't work).

Just make sure that you run the config disc for the wiikey 2 and set it only to accept updates from usa (since his wii is ntsc). Then your good to go. If a PAL game gives you a black screen then there is an update on it and you can either do what admiral suggested or update to 3.4u via the wifi and your good to go.
