    SD card works, dvds don't

I installed the Wiikey Fusion and was able to load games from the SD card with no problems. I ran into issues when trying to use the DVD drive.

    Wii specs:
    -Drive version: D2E (98% sure)
-Updated to latest Wii system software, updated around Thanksgiving 2011
    -Wiikey Fusion software version 1.5
-Wiikey Fusion region set to USA
-Wiikey Fusion settings: everything is set to ON in the settings/configuration screen except the "Wii disc autoboot", basically the default settings that it shipped with

My issue and what I've tried:
-Installed Wiikey Fusion and games work perfectly from the SD card
-Tried to insert a disc and the drive wouldn't accept it (there was no disc in there as I had ejected it prior to installing the Wiikey Fusion)
-Opened up the Wii again, checked the Wiikey Fusion region, fiddled with the cables and made sure they were connected securely and correctly, remounted it, and closed it
-(I even swapped the cables to make sure the cable shipped with the Wiikey Fusion wasn't defective; I currently have it: HOST --WKF cable--> Wiikey Fusion --original cable--> DVD drive)
-Powered on the Wii, same thing: SD card loads and I can play the games off it, but discs won't even go in
-I then tried taking out the SD card (prior to this I had tried to insert the discs with the SD card in the reader) and tried inserting the disc
-The disc goes in, it sounds like the drive starts to spin/read it, but the disc channel remains empty and keeps asking that a disc be inserted
-Power-cycled the Wii, ejected/re-inserted the disc same thing
-Ejected the disc, inserted the SD card, booted to the Wiikey Fusion screen, turned off the Wiikey Fusion in the configuration screen, turned off the Wii, removed the SD card, turned on the Wii, inserted a disc - and same thing
-The discs are all original games (have not tried backups yet) and all worked prior to Wiikey Fusion being installed

I'm not seeing much troubleshooting info or support options on the Wiikey website and am wondering if anyone has seen a similar issue and knows how to resolve it. Do I have the Wiikey Fusion correctly configured in the settings/configuration screen? Am I following the correct procedure when trying to access the DVD drive? Or did I just get a defective Wiikey Fusion unit that isn't passing the DVD data to the Wii? I would appreciate any help.

Sometimes you have to eject the SD before you can use the disc drive.

That's what I figured. I did try ejecting the SD card after which the Wii accepts the disc but refuses to read it. The disc channel doesn't recognize the disc, or maybe never "sees" the disc. That's what I'm worried about, that the Wiikey Fussion unit I received is defective and doesn't pass the drive data onto the Wii. I'm hoping that it is just a settings issue, but I can't seem to find any documentation online that explains the more obscure settings in the configuration screen.

You can only use DVD -R discs with the fusion it will not read DVD +R. If you are using +R there is a workaround that has worked for me. Use Imgburn and set the booktype to DVD-R. This link explains it in more detail.

hey, i had the same problem, i know you mentioned setting the region toggle switches correctly as I thought i had done, I used a small screw driver to press them all the way in the right direction (careful not to snap them) but they took more force to hear a good "click" this fixed all sorts of problems i had. and trikon000 is absolutely right, eject the sd and unplug the console for a few seconds then plug it back in before inserting a disc, this saved my tail! the unplugging was crucial!

Let this be a lesson to anyone. Do not buy any WiiKey products. The WiiKey Team don't care about their products, and there are alot of faults in their product too. I recommend Wassabi or WODE.
