Question Updated with offical copy Donkey Kong Country Returns...Oops.. Still region free?

I recently bought a Wii used (ntfs based North American) and a used copy of Donkey Kong Returns. Fiancee' updated with that game. And I'm due to receive Wiikey Fusion.

    My question is:

Am I still going to be able to play PAL backups (Europe releases) or in general Region Free games? I have no idea what version I had or it is now...

Thanks for any response in advance

The 4.2 and 4.3 updates killed the region free ability of hardmods. I believe DK has 4.3 update on it. You will need to follow the softmod ANY wii guide linked in my signature, it will get your wii back to SM 4.1 and restore the region free ability of hardmods. Although, once you do all of that you could thake that Money you were going to spend on ad hard mod and just get an external hdd for yourself and not have to mess with discs anymore.

Would you recommend that I wait until my Modchip arrives and install that first before I downgrade it? Or could I do the downgrade process before its in place? I ended up finding this tutorial to help me downgrade by mauifrog:

You can go ahead and do that while you wait. You could just do the full softmod guide and not need the modchip at all. USB loading is way better IMO.

Post Still need more clarification for hardmod specific choice

    Hi again,

I've SoftModed a $200 console in the past and had bricked it with no workaround so I am very very scared of softmoding. The softmod guide is defiantly great for other people though but for me, I have to go the hard-mod way.

I'm a really sensitive person, so I want you to know the honest truth, and if you are sensitive too, I'm not trying/intending to hurt your feelings at all... so here it goes:

I posted under Wiikey Fusion because I was hoping that I could get an answer that was more relating to my problem such as with more info; confirming why and how (or like if they also used a hard modchip before or after they downgraded the system menu themselves). I assumed that your expertise was more involved with softmoding because you said it was in your opinion Softmoding with "USB loading was a way better choice". So you, having said that, told me that, that was your final answer, and the question had run its course, even though it didn't fill in the hole for me about the wiikey fusion hard-mod chip way if it was for sure safe or not. (I'm still feeling really uneasy with going ahead without more info as to why it's okay to progress with the firmware downgrade first and not after). So assuming that the question was answered as best to the "Wiikey Fusion" Forum category, and figured this thread would be 'Closed' by the Moderator (which I guessed would be you). Because I couldn't find where the 'Delete(my)Thread' button was. I'm still really new to this community, I really did think that the thread would be closed after your answer, even if it didn't relate to the wiki fusion specifically. So I thought that: "Maybe my choosing of the place to put the question shouldn't be under the hard modchip forum, but under the actual Downgrade System Menu Guide I was going to use. Then I would reach a broader population to a more close-related answer about the firmware guide instead. So I posted my question there, and then soon I had received a warning for double posting. I really was under the impression that it was a different question because of the priority of needing info relating to the hard modchip using that downgrade guide and not just a specialized placement of the question about the downgrade under Hard modchip category.

Now here's where I'm extremely worried. I really didn't mean to double post to get the warning. I'm hoping to stay with this bulletin board community for many years to come, because it looks as though the admin/moderators are really helpful and friendly, and I don't want to loose you guys. I'm really worried about that warning and how the system works, I really do want to have the cleanest of records and I'm worried about the warning effecting it Is there set time period where the red flag warning status disappears? I never want or wanted to break the rules ever Is there a way to remove the status (if there is one) by working it off (by doing some text cleanup, etc.) or for begging for forgiveness? I don't know why I'm so sensitive to this, but the Wii is all I have in my life which is keeping me going, and having a highly helpful bulletin to check out every day.

And for future knowledge, is there a way to request a thread to be moved?

And back to the original thread. I'm sorry about assuming you told me all that you could offer. If you still can fill in my more in-depth question or confirm that you know for sure that it's okay to use the downgrade system menu guide before the mod chip is installed, and why it's okay, I'll be ever so greatful. I'm just so worried sick of bricking my one and only Wii.

Thanks for your understanding for my misunderstanding,
    Sincerly,
    ~Danielle

Your warning is not really going to hurt you and it expires in 10 days. Don't sweat it. I issued the warning because that seems to get peoples attention much better than simply replying in the thread (which you have proven that theory for me with your response).
Downgrading your system menu prior to installing the hardmod is perfectly safe to do. I recommended the full guide because I think it's a much better way to go. The guide you are looking at is just as risky as the softmod any wii guide....which is very minimal especially if you are able to follow instructions. Read this FAQ and you will better understand modding all together.

Oh, Phew! lol, thank you so much.

It really is just as risky? Hmm...I suppose if the softmod goes ok, maybe I could sell the Wiikey fusion Thanks for the Overview FAQ about Wii Hacking, I'll get reading right away.
