The WBFS formated SD should be in the wiikey fusion SD card reader provided.

I got a disc error the first time I installed it, it means when you inserted the drive cables to the wiikey fusion they were not completely straight in or the jtag cable on the modchip. You will have to open back up and set the drive cables are set correctly.

For modchips like this, you need to test all functions while you still have the case open to make sure everything is working properly.

Use electrical tape or whatever you decide to use to hold the thing in place. Also cover the top of the modchip so none of the electrical contacts can possibly touch the disc drive.

When I go to the Disc Menu, a spinning disc appears. After a few seconds it says:
"? Unable to read the disc. Check the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."

I have pressed "eject" several times.
I have waited for upwards of 15 minutes.
I have turned off - and disconnected the power supply - and then turned-back on the Wii.
Before I turn it back on, I have already placed my 1GB SD card in the WIIKEY card slot.

The Wii acts as if there is simply a wiring bridge - or nothing new at all - where the Wiikey is.

I find it strange that there is no indication that the Wiikey Fusion works to play .iso backups-downloads.
I know it says it does.
    My Wii is a 2006.
    The chip is a GC2-D3
The beginning of the serial number is LU6488..........
This Wii is supposed to play DVDs/ISOs as well as the SD card games - which are a sort of a waste!

    Any further suggestions?

What type/brand of blanks DVDs are you using? DVD+ or DVD-? I got "unable to read disc" with burned DVD+Rs, when I used DVD-R instead, it worked.

    I use "Sony AccuCORE" DVD-R - 122mm - 4.7GB and I burned my games at 2x only.

I had read about burning slower than the top speeds which are upwards of 16x.

I wanted to ask; if I simply put a copied/backed-up disc in the Wii, should it not simply play - with no SD card - and even if I disconnected the little ribbon attached to the external Wiikey SD drive?

All the literature - again of which there is little and vague - I have read speaks exclusively of using the SD reader! Nothing about playing a DVD.

My DVD games are burned as an .ISO file. Are they supposed to be a different format on the disc?

    Easy to install!

    Hey,
As like you I am some what new to wii mods. My wii is a new one week old and the wiikey fusion I received last week as well. I have not been able to get into the fusion menu much less load a game or update from the SD card. I to am running 4.2U and I do not believe we can install a lower firmware to our wii's now. I have contacted the supplier of my fusion chip to see if maybe the chip is bad or I have done something wrong. The only thing I can think of is the the tape cables are not seated properly or I have a bad chip!! if you get any advise please pass it on... Thanks and good luck. I thought wiikey was the leader in mod chips I may have made a mistake thinking that!

    Ca I Don't Like This

The more I see problems, the more I am inclined to believe that the Wiikey Fusion is NO GOOD.

I have still not received a message back from them. I left two email on their .cn site.

I purchased mine from a supplier in Hong Kong. I had also purchased 3 Acekard 2i

    The Acekard work perfectly.

    The Wiikey Fusion does not.

I have applied through "escrow" payment for my money back.

I have not had a dispute against this request so I am "safe" that way.

I recommend that NO ONE buy ANY WIIKEY PRODUCTS AT ALL.

If they can't answer questions and they are leaving us all out in the dark - they suck!

Do not by any Wiikey Products.

It is not that it doesn't work. The 4.2 and 4.3 wii firmware stubs that cause problems for softmods has a nasty little problem for wiikey fusion users on virgin 4.2 and 4.3 wiis. I found that out on a virgin wii with 4.2 for a friend.

What those stubs do is poll the wii drive and looks for modchips with some function calls, once it finds a known modchip behavior it knows, it shuts down the wii within 5 to 10 seconds of playing anything, wiiware or game with the power light still on.

That pretty much means on any virgin wii with 4.2 or higher, you have to softmod and hardmod your wii if you plan to use a modchip. There is no way you can pick hardmod as the only way anymore on 4.2 and up, at least not with the wiikey fusion.

On any of wii with 4.1 or lower, you don't need to softmod to use the wiikey fusion.

I hope you can either get your money back or get a replacement, gtatix.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if that is the only problem with mine. I placed the fusion in a wii that was 1.5yrs old not sure of the firmware version may have been 4.2 and up but may not have been, not sure sorry. I can tell ya it worked the same way loads the disc Chanel and I see the GameCube icon but no luck loading the fusion menu.. So do I have a bad chip, bad cable to the SD card or is it the firmware issue?? If its the firm ware how do I load a soft mod that will allow the wii to work normal but also allow me to run game iso's off of SD cards. Hope all this makes sense. Thanks again for any help.

It seems the SD is not hot swapable from what dedpossum says. I normally have the power plug disconnected from the wii when I am not using it. I also do any swapping of the games on the SD card at that time. You might have to either start from a cold start, thats having it unplugged first or press Eject a few times until the SD card is readable again by the wiikey fusion. Ejecting the SD card while the wii is still turned on seems to cause the wiikey fusion to give a disc error.

I have noticed that pressing eject when the power is off, re powering down, then loading the new or updated SD card seems to work as well.

    Hope all this is helping.
This might help you with the disc error.
