I doubt it, you will need a USB HD for games. As far as i know the Black/White Wii`s with the D3-2 Drives wont play backups.

I have a D3-2 v2 drive with Wiikey fusion installed and it works from the SD card slot. You will not be able to load backups from DVD though.

i have a question for why did you choose to go with a chip over a softmod?
have you had any issues with backups not working played via SD?

I mainly got the chip to be able to fix bricked systems but I've used it to load backups via SD card and have not had any issues with it yet. I just received my WiiKey about a week ago so extensive testing has not yet been done. I'm going to try a few new games from SD slot today, I'll let you know how it goes. In my opinion, softmod is the best way to go. You can simply save your backups to a hard drive and access them rather than having a bunch of dvd discs or sd cards laying around.

How do you fix a bricked system with the WiiKey?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm new the the Wii system, I'm more of a 360 guy.

If a softmodded Wii bricks you can use the modchip to autoboot an app like wad manager or HBC to recover. This is providing the fact that the softmodded Wii has IOS60 patched and a disc drive that can read a dvd backup. I'm hoping Wiikey will come out with an update that will allow to autoboot from the SD card.
