    Hi there,

I've got the same problem as you. I also have a western digital hdd as well.

The only way i solved this problem was to pull out the cable for the hdd from the wii before loading USB loader GX. USB loader GX will then state something like "please connect hdd" and it will do a count down from 20 secs. When it starts to count down, power up the hdd then put the usb cable back into the wii. Low and behold USB loader starts working.

I've tried to find a fix for this on a couple of forums, however I've had no luck.

    Anywho, happy wii-ing... :OP

Thanks. Yeah, I figured that out. The problem is that the WD HDD goes into sleep mode. What I would do is turn the WD off. Click USB loader, and immediately power up the WD. It would start to load up and everything worked fine. Your unplug and plug in is basically the same thing.

I bought Buffalo Technology MiniStation Stealth 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive HD-PCT500U2/B (Black) for $78 from amazon.com and this one works without that whole power-up step, (disconnect, reload) you just sit back and click USB loader, then the drive automatically kicks in. The WD is now my back-up for my notebook. I think I found a few links regarding USB loader choice here in the forums. I think this one I bought back in February was the best deal for the price and for what I needed. I didn't need every game Wii makes, so the size is plenty big. Also, I got a free trial subscription from Gamefly and uploaded a few games from what they sent. I only play one game at present!

The whole process for the WD is silly so, I would recommend you look into purchasing a new HD to eliminate that headache. Good luck.
