What will happen if I update online?

I soft modded my wii two years ago using the Zelda disc thing. I don't even remember what I did exactly, but on the wii menu I can see HBC and backup launcher/backup loader. I played a few back up games and they were all junk so I pretty much stopped playing.

Now I'd like to get my wii online and maybe buy a couple of news games.

What will happen if I put my 3.4e modded wii online and do a firmware upgrade? Will it brick? Will it wipe the soft mod?

While I enjoyed modding my wii, I don't have time to keep up with the mod community and just want to be able to buy a game, put the disc in, go online, download updates and not have to worry about explaining to my wife why the wii just stopped working one day.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you update online it will kill your existing softmod. But if you only plan on buying newer games and playing them, then the update is necessary and won't brick your wii.

Thank you for the fast reply. And btw, congrats on making the Indian cricket team look like a bunch of old social players.
