You're right grandpa, so I stopped the transfer where it was and whacked the new hdd into the wii and it hung on the "initiliaze usb device" (edit: using usbloadergx btw) part, then went to the "Insert hdd: 19 secs left" or something like that, and started counting down, but the seconds where like minutes, so I plugged in the original hdd and it worked, then switched to the new hdd and it also worked. Dunno why it was so tetchy at first but it worked, any ideas why it was tetchy?

Also then slapped the hdd thingy into my tv and that also worked, so looking good.

Maybe I just overly worry hey

Remember Don't fix what aint broken. If it's working, Read and educate yourself before you muck it right up.....Well Done. You may have inadvertently plugged into the wrong USB port!!!! This will cause the counting to kick in.....

    :O

How long did it take you then? I'm guessing your PC does not have USB 2.0 ports - my speed is around 30mb/s if I copy something from HDD to PC or vice versa. And that's just using USB 2.0

Glad to know your problem was solved - as long as your HDD works, don't bother tweaking it to fix minor problems
