Help with undertanding and solving a problem possibly caused by my SD card?

I am new here so if this is not the correct board please point me to the correct board, thank you very much

So I've been looking into softmodding my recently bought used Wii from gamestop and have been running into some trouble right out of the gate. The Wii in question has never been softmodded and is running 4.3U the only update that I know about that has been applied is the support code 61212 one when you test a internet connection. I have been attempting to use Letterbomb and Modmii, I have followed the instructions for Letterbomb exactly such as typing in the correct MAC address, unchecking bundle hackmii, cutting the red wire, and putting the private folder on the root of my SD card. However I cannot get the letterbomb to show up, I have restarted the wii, formated the memory, played a game, made other messages, checked back and forth months in the message board, and formated my SD card in all known formats just in case.

Could it be that my SD card can't load the data even though the Wii can see that an SD has been inserted. It's a Patriot 2GB SD card.(not SDHC) Does anyone know if the "Sandisk for Wii" SD cards sold by nintendo would work with softmodding my wii?

    Thank you for your time!

Just to make sure, you said "putting the private folder," did you also put all other contents such as the bootmii folder and boot.elf?

Make sure your time and date is correct and check a few days behind and ahead.

Not sure about the Wii SD card, but generally sandisk is a good bet for compatibility. I doubt there is any difference from the wii one or just a normal one (besides it's white and costs more).

I have yet to have a bootmii folder or a boot.elf file with the private folder I get from downloading letterbomb in the way the modmii guide tells me to. I have noticed that I get a boot.elf file when I leave the bundle hackmii installer checked on the letterbomb page but no bootmii folder. Should I have a bootmii folder and boot.elf file and if so where do I get the bootmii folder, as far as I can tell it doesn't come with with the downloads modmii supplies.

I'm sorry if I am being rather stupid about these things. Searching though the forums hasn't brought me much solid information.

    Thank you for your time

Ah, Modmii, not really recommended here. The best way is to follow the softmod any wii guide [2] (in my sig).

Let me correct myself, I was looking at one of my backups and now realize that the bootmii folder gets created AFTER you launch letterbomb. You should still have the boot.elf though.

Just keep reading through the resources on this site and things should slowly become more and more clearer.

It is still possible that your patriot sd card isn't compatible, even when following the guide. If possible collect as many SD cards as you can (cameras, phones etc) and just try them all until you find one that works.

There is a single question I have left and this is after downloading the SDformat software the Softmod any wii guide suggests it doesn't allow me to choose what to format my SD to. It just formats it back into the default FAT file system (not FAT32 just FAT) I was under the impression that FAT32 was the best file system to use for SD cards. Is there something wrong the the software or is it fine just to use it in it's original FAT state, and is it alright if I use the default allocation size of my SD card which seems to be 32KB?

What tool are you using to format? If you just use the default windows format it should work.

After getting Lego Batman and buying a "Sandisk for Wii" SD card I finally got my Wii fully modded by following the softmod any wii guide. Thank you for all of your help, love this place!
