Alternate to Wii's built in SD card reader?

So I am looking to modify my Wii. Soft modding seems to be the way to go, however, I was hit with the unfortunate news that my SD card reader may need some repairs. If I send it in, then I am down $70. If I decide to open my Wii up (something I am pseudo-comfortable with), I could hard mod it, but I would still be spending more money than I would like too. Also, I don't feel terribly safe hard modding my Wii.

Then I come across this little guy http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-C...d_sim_sbs_vg_3

I am a little confused at what this is. I did some (light) research online and saw that this is a (?)Wii Key(?). I did some more searching and saw that Wii Key is a hard mod thing, adding to my confusion about what this is and can do.

What I am looking for (and what this looks like) is a replacement for my Wii's broken SD card reader. Will this do the job?

To me, that looks like it goes in the GC memory card slot, i may be wrong but i dont think this is going to work. U can probably pick up a replacement card reader for the wii for the same price

I have just done a google search and found a replacement for as little as $10 and lower

So I would need a Wiikey Fusion to use it? Or can I use it the same way I would the SD card reader and soft mod my Wii through it (but as a replacement)?
