    System Menu Themes Question

I use the app MyMenuify, load the app from my SD card on my Homebrew channel, and change the system menu themes whenever I feel like it. After reading a few posts in this forum on how it could brick your Wii, I'm getting uncomfortable with using it. I have the patched version of the system menu 4.1. Do you think there's a high risk of me bricking my Wii using it? If so, how?
    Thanks.

I have a feeling that some of those posts were mine so let me share my knowledge and hopefully a mod can confirm/supplement it.

If you've applied it and it's working you are probably OK, the install process is what's going to brick your wii. Botmii as boot2 is only possible on relatively few old wiis, yet the only way to recover from a theme brick. That is reason 1 for avoiding themes.

System menu themes must be an exact match to your system menu in order to work, if you mismatch the version, you could result in a brick.

Considering the options with apps and priiloader's autoboot functionality, the risks I've described above are not worth it.

See also the guides about brick prevention and system menu themes (where the guide responsibly describes the risks).

So in a perfect world all the themes you get/make fit your wii and you never have a problem. The fact that this type of update is so hard to recover from discourages this community from supporting this type of mod. If you use NAND emulation you can have some more fun without risk, if you use themeable system menu replacements apps via priiloader you aren't risking much, but if you F with your real NAND via system menu themes, you just might F yourself.

Alright. I was thinking that it could brick the Wii by me installing another hack and it doing something to it.

Do you know how to restore the Wii to it's original theme and to remove all effects that the app could've had on the Wii?

Maikhorma was correct (once again lol) about the themes. Now that you have it applied and working you are safe. Another issue in the past has been people downloading broken themes, and when they are installed they brick your system. Thats the problem with getting something from a random site on the net...

If you want to restore to the original theme all you need to do is reinstall the original system menu. Did you follow the ANY Wii guide or a different guide?

EDIT: Would prob be good to post a syscheck.

Redoing the softmod any Wii guide should do the trick. System menus compromise both priiloader, and (obviously) your system menu. You may get away with piecemeal efforts, but if it were me (not an expert) I would follow most of the guide including the system menu install. You can probably skip the nand backup if you did that before any theming took place.

Before I came to the WiiHacks community, I used GAF's Wii Homebrew Tutorial to start softmodding my Wii. I started using the ANY WII tutorial later on and skipped Chapter 1 to Chapter 2
since I already did most of the steps it said to do in Chapter 1.
    Here's my Wii system details:

Its up to you, it will not hurt you to keep your current theme. Changing back and forth is the most dangerous part actually. You sure you want to change it back? It is a simple fix, but as mauifrog stated there is always a slight chance something could go wrong. I personally have done this quite a few times with no issues, but still have to warn ya.

The only way I see to switch back is to select the original theme in MyMenuify. Is there another way to do it or will that do? I got some of the themes I'm using from this site. Found it here.

By the way, does anything look wrong with my system details? I never did make a NAND backup if that helps.

    Syscheck looks fine.

When I got rid of my themes the last time I simply reinstalled the System Menu-NUS-4.1U-v54449.wad and priiloader. I never tried changing it back with mymenuify...

Do you think I should to the first steps of the ANY WII guide and make a NAND backup just in case? Or should I just leave it?
