    Wii DVD Support

    Hi.
I want my Wii to be able to read DVDs to be able to play on the WiiMC channel. I found DVDX but it said it was out of date.
My Wii is version 4.3. Is there anyway to make it read DVDs?
    Thanks.

So basically there's no way to install it? I heard you can get it from the homebrew browser but was a little worried because I had version 4.3.

Marth0, If you are using your hdd you can run movies from files with wiimc or CE player. No disc needed.

I think 4.2 and 4.3 won't read dvd movies. Something to to with it blocking dvdx. I think if u install 4.1 from the softmod any Wii guide dvd's will work. I know my 4.1 plays retail dvds, and when i did my friend awhile back he was on 4.2 and it would not play dvds.

But like grandpa said u could just rip them with Nero or something to your hard drive and play them that way. Otherwise I would follow the softmod any Wii guide and do the optional 4.1 downgrade to see if that works.

Yep, wise words from Grandpa. Avi files are the best, and there's plenty of movie file converters out there.

DVDX was superseded by the HBC itself (1.0.7+), so I'm fairly sure that would allow you to play DVD's (you can still play burned DVD's, I know that). However, no Wiis that come with 4.2 will play them, I believe. Anyway, videos through an HDD work on all Wiis, so jut go with that.
