Has my mates brother in law been messing around with the wii i soft modded for him?

last year i soft modded my mates brother-in-law's wii, a while ago my mate phoned me & said that the wii wasn't loading games anymore so i told him to drop it round to me to look at.
Tonight he brought it round to me, i put the sd card in my pc only to find that the app's folder was empty which was the reason CFG loader wasn't working so i loaded the app folder again & cfg loader worked again with no problems.

What i want to know is, is it possible to remove data from the SD with the wii or would he have had to have put the sd card in a pc to play around with it?
The reason i ask is because his brother in law is a pain in the arse, i have soft modded 2 wii's for him, this 1 that went wrong was the second he has had off of me, when he had the first he broke the casing of the ext hdd & had to buy a new one, he attached the hdd to a pc to see if he could look on it even though i told him never to(i formatted it to WBFS on purpose so his PC wouldn't recognize it) then when he had the second wii done he tried to get me to tell him how to copy the newer games off of the second hdd to the first which obviously i didn't tell him.

could he have played around with it?

He (or someone else in need of an sd card) probably took the card out and used it for something else, then cleaned it and put it back in the wii.

all the files were still on the sd card, it was just the app's folder that was empty

If the apps folder was completly empty, I find it unlikely that it was deleted through the Wii.
The only way to do this would be through the use of a homebrew app. The most common app for managing your SD card is WiiXplorer.
I'm not sure, but I doubt you can delete the WiiXplorer or any app folder while you're using the app.
There is no way to delete the contents of the app folder through the Wii's system menu. (That I know of)

Someone more than likely manually deleted the contents through a PC.

That is why I don't use SD cards. If you must use WBFS partitions make a 1gb fat32 partition for apps etc. Keep the fiddlers away. I thought it was only children who messed.
I guess every day is a school day.

Apps can be deleted in hbc, maybe that is what they did.
+1 to the no SD card idea, that's how mine is. All fat though.

Sent with WiiHacks app, that should explain any typos 8-p
