can I use usb drive?
I am about to buy another wii for myself ( I previously modded my sons) I want to know if all modding can be done through a usb drive (8gb) Last time i used a 2gb sd card. Im going to buy the wii after I get all the info from here. I need to look at how to mod it again as I forget.

You will need to use a SD card, a USB drive won't work. Follow the Softmod Any Wii guide in the recommended guides section of this site (all the way through). Letterbomb will probably be the easiest route for a new wii. Spend lots of time on this site reading and learning. If you take your time and make sure you understand what you're doing, you should be in good shape.

I agree with Maikhorma, you must be confident in what you are doing and know how to do it. There are HEAPS of guide on this website so just search for a good one.
Let me know on how it goes and good luck!

Yeah im comfortable with it just wondering if I could use USB instead otherwise I need to buy another SD card since my son has the others. Thanks for the info guys ill post if I have any issues.

Yeah you will definitely need an sd card and preferably a USB if you wish to load games.
The SD card doesn't need to be large, even 1 GB will do (although I use a 4 GB)
Enjoy!

You only *need* the SD while you're doing the softmod. While larger cards will work afer, for the softmodding process 4 gig wont work. You'll need something thats not SDHC, sandisk 1gig preferred. 1-2gig okay. Anything smaller is too small for nand backup.

Why can't you use SDHC cards? I am actually using a microSD card (sorry, should have mentioned but I forgot) with an SD card adapter. 4GB microSD has worked fine for me with softmod and wad files (wiiware and VC)

You can use SDHC cards after softmodding. They do NOT work (consistently) for the softmodding process. You might get lucky, but its unusual. Thus, we tell people to use 1 or 2 gig non SDHC.
