Having hard time picking right type of mod for my Wii 4.3u

Hi, I just bought a new wii (4.3u) a few months ago and I would like to mod it.  I read a bunch of the stickies about the different modding methods, but I'm still hazy on which route to take.  I thought it would be more useful to list the things I would want to do with it.  Ideally, I would want to do the following with my wii:

-Play burned game discs IN the Wii drive, not with external DVD burners, hard drives, or flash drives
-Still be able to play retail Wii games, including newer ones
-Have the Wii be region-less, so that it can play retail games from all regions
-Be able to play back-up GC games as well (I have many GC games I would like to backup just in case)
-Method that successfully plays the most number of games
    -Preferably avoid doing soldering

I'm stuck here and I really would appreciate any pointers.  Thanks in advance.

usb loading! besides, your new Wii will never read burned games, unless you swap out the drive, in which case, usb loading FTW!

Your Wii won't play burned media (unless you replace the current drive with an older one). USB loading is much better anyway (easier, faster loading speeds, etc.). As for what mod to use, follow the Softmod ANY Wii guide (link in my sig).

Even hardmodding the wii would not allow me to put games into the wii drive?

Replaceing the drive with an older model would do it. Not sure about using a modchip (no experience there). Why do you want to load backup disks anyway? They spin half as fast as original disks and have long loading times (HDD's run faster than original disks).

a mod chip will not make any difference, it is a limitation of the Wii drive itself, only replacing it with a drive capable of reading burned media will fix it

Yup softmod ftw I never quite understood why they even bothered makin modchips for the Wii. You can add games to the usb drive by simply popping the disc (retail only) then pressing + in the usbloader app and your done.
Priiloader will let you set the Wii up for "region" free gaming however you still need to force ntsc use on games or set these Pal games to be loaded using /forcing ntsc which can be set and saved via usbloader options for the game. Couldn't be any easier!

    Happy Modding!

Ok, so using the wii drive to play games is out of the question. If I were to softmod it, would I still be able to do all of the other things that I want to do with my wii?

The reason why I was leaning towards disks is that I have a lot of blank discs I could use. Also, I would not want to loose all of my games and have to back them up again if the hard drive or flash drive every became corrupted. With discs, if one breaks, you still have the rest of the games on other discs. But if that doesn't work with my wii, then I can't do it.

Now, I'm basically stuck between the external usb hard drive and the flash drive. Which of those two methods is more reliable and faster?

Yes. Except GC backups. You would need a WODE (hardmod) since you can't play burned disks. And you will be able to play ALL games.

You can just re-rip the games. It might be a pain, but it's not TOO bad. And the likelihood of it becoming corrupted beyond repair (Check Disk) is pretty small. Especially if you have a drive completely dedicated to the Wii.

Use an HDD. It'll be faster and you'll get more storage space.
