I have a 1Tb USB 3.0 Western Digital My Passport Essential HD working prefectly.
Works flawlessly with Usbloader GX formatted in NTFS.

External hard disks spin down after a period of inactivity. In the case of the WD, it spins down after 30 minutes by default.
Some games are unable to recover from this situation.
I used WD Smartware to disable the powerdown feature; maybe you can find a similar Seagate utiliy and do the same.

    I hope this helped

    Hi Gillermo,

I have used a very similar drive (Seagate STAY1000102). There is a Seagate Windows utility called Seagate Manager, run it with the drive and disable the sleep mode of your usb 2.0/3.0 drive. Then load D2X ver 7-final
    Install D2Xv7-final slot 247, Base 57, revision 21007
    Install D2Xv7-final slot 248, Base 56, revision 21007
    Install D2Xv7-final slot 249, Base 56, revision 21007
I would use Configurable USB Loader, set it to ios clot 248 (default). All will work fine. As well, if you use Mighty Channels, leave it on default cios 249 and it will work too! WiiMC I have found will fail with the usb 3.0 drive.... but that is another story, for which I do not currently have a solution (WiiMC uses a totally different cios) which creates all sorts of issues.

Hi Guys not sure which end of the Planet your on. But have a look at Mauifrogs mod ANY Wii. Not sure why you are advising TWO cios with the same Base, ie: 248[56] 249[56] The majority of games will run on base [56] Modern warfare etc runs on base [57] If you stick to the guides advise you WILL play 99% of backed up games from HDD. WiiMC will also work. I am set up with Maui. CFG v70 GX v2.3 Wiimc 1.1.9 Neogamma 9 46

    Hi Grandpa1959,

Um, your cool You have reference to WiiMC and that IS my most problem app, I am following your thread dude ! I think the reason for doubling slot 249, with base 56 is for Mighty Channels compatibility. Mighty Channels uses slot 249 by default, so a seemless install of Mighty Channels is problem free.

Question 1) Do you know how to disable the WiiMC automatic update feature ? I am in the situation of downgrading my WiiMC as well, but my kids and tenant keep hitting the upgrade button... which often does bad things to WiiMC (like nuke the green check marks so you don't know which shows you have already seen).

Question 2) What size / type drive are you running WiiMC off of ? 2TB usb 2.0 , 1TB usb 3.0 ? All my GAMES work perfectly on these drives as D2Xv6 or v7 seem to fix this but WiiMC always seems to give me issues with odd usb drives (2TB, usb 3.0, etc..).

In case your External HDD does not support managing software (like my Medion 2TB Seagate Barracuda drive), after searching a bunch, I found a tool that fixes this!
Use Drive Power Manager. Very simple program (it's a trial, but you only need to use it once I guess). Select your hard drive, disable 'Allow Standby' and click Set. That did it for me. WARNING: I have no idea what disabling standby does for the longevity of my HDD!!
EDIT: In case of Spin Down problems!
EDIT2: ... Well, It doesn't seem to be working correctly, don't know why. Had no freeze problems yet though.
