    Hardmodding my Wii (NEWBIE)

Helly everybody, so I have done some searching around the forums and have read a couple of the excellent tutorials that are on the site, but I do have some questions I was hoping to have answered.

I have one of the first White Wii's made that is updated to the newest version. It is a virgin wii and I have not made any attempts to soft or hardmod it in the past.

I WAS interested in hard modding, because from what I read on the forums, it seems safer and less likely that I will face bricking in the future (but from what I am starting to learn, this risk is much smaller than I previously anticipated). However, the Sundriver and Jukebox USB loader are both pretty pricey.

I am hoping to eventually play my backups from a USB hard drive, and don't have a desire to play burned discs. What is my best option? I wouldn't mind spending $0-40 on a mod chip to help save me from the risk of bricking, but am not interested in spending more than the cost of my wii. I was also trying to avoid both hard + soft modding, but if that is a really good option someone let me know please. I am new to modifying consoles, so I apologize as I know this question has probably been asked 100+ times before

personally I think soft modding it would be a fine option for you.. and there are plenty of issues with chips goin bad among other things that can happen to them.. Is you have a boot2 capable wii than you have a really high recovery rate in case something stupid is done and you brick.. chances are pretty slim though if you follow the any wii guide in my sig.

Did I come off like a jerk?? Read more here

Thanks shift. Actually, I did read your soft-mod tutorial as well as your "how to not fail", and thought they were both very well written. I will definitely look more into this tomorrow, and if I have any questions I will be sure to ask. Thank you!
