have not tried my drive on his wii, not totally sure my set up with using a IDE internal drive with a USB to IDE adapter will work at all. Was the whole reason I started this thread. My Wii is a old, not sure what generation. But it has been around awhile. Would that make a difference?

My wii is old and i am currently using a 160gb hard drive from my old pc in a sata hdd docking station and it runs fine. The reason i asked if your drive was working in his wii is because if it did maybe there is a fault with the usb port on your wii

That would really suck if the USB port is bad, have never used it until trying the hard drives.

Are you booting CFG Loader from a FAT32 HDD, or from SD? if you are booting from a Fat32 Drive try placing CFG loader on an SD card and boot from there. If CFG boots, your HDD drive should pop up and you can select it, if it does not pop up than your HDD is not compatible. Also if your friend is booting from an SD card you may need to try his SD card in your Wii with his HDD? Every Time I have HDD issues I try to boot from an SD, the best thing to do is download "APP PACK.zip" from step 3 in the "softmod any Wii guide", format an SD card and place the new files on the root of the SD card, then place the SD card in your Wii and try loading CFG Loader. of course all this assumes you are trying to boot from HDD?

I believe I am trying to boot from the SD card. I have made a duplicate copy of my friends SD card and tried using his HDD. Still no luck. Not entirely sure how to set up booting from the HDD. Can you help me with this? Thanks
