    Factory Reset Question...

I just got a Wii from a friend and apparently he had done a soft mod. Before he gave it to me, he did a factory reset so when I got it, it was like new only it was at 4.1u. I'm trying to play Modern Warfare 3 but can't upgrade in order to do so. I don't care about having the HBC and all that, I just want to play the old fashioned way. I have look for about a week now and can not figure out how to upgrade the firmware from 4.1u to 4.3 so I can just play regular old games off the disc.

Can any help me out or point me in the right direction?

    Thanks.

The wii probably still has priiloader installed. If you hold the reset button in while you power it on you wil get the priiloader screen. You will need to disable the hacks that are blocking the updates.

Thanks for the quick response. I just tried that and I do see the priiloader screen (v0.4 (r78) but I get only errors when I attempt to use any of the settings.

HBC says: 'Error auto booting HBC, maybe title note installed?'

BooMii IOS says: "Could not mount SD card."

Launch title give me a list of everything I see in the main menu when I boot normally.

Installed File says: "Error auto booting file, try reinstalling!'\"

Load/Install File says: "No FAT device found."

System Meny Hacks says: "Faild to mount FAT device."

Is there any way that I can manually upgrade the firmware? Say like download 4.3 and install via the SD card?

Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

Hi man, I had the same problem but after the whole afternoon - it's done :-D. Just switch to Homebrew channel then find priiloader, load it and follow the instructions :-). (hold button "B" and press button "-"). This causes the deletion of Priiloader and you would be able to update your WII and play WM3 ;-). In case the updating process would fail don't panic. Insert the WM3 disc in and start the update procedure again. Uff:-). And now I hope to find how to use USB loader again;–).

I had 4.3 but downgraded to 4.1u .. I dont have homebrew channel anymore... priiloader loads but I get the same exact errors as RyGuy when I go to any settings. Id like to get the hacks off my wii and get it as close to factory state as I can. I need to update to play MW3, Zelda, and Zumba :P

As far as i know you DONT need to be on ANY specific FW to play ANY game. Also you CANT unmod the wii once its softmodded. Thats the way it seems from the guide i followed the other day. As long as its done correctly (follow the maui soft mod guide) you SHOULD be able to insert any game and play.

I bought one of the new mario bros black wii bundles within the last 2 weeks and im hacked and chuggin along like a boss. no issues whatsoever. hasnt been a game yet that threw up a red flag. no need to unmod at all IMO.

Well I can play certain games... Mario Galaxy, and the wii sports... Super Mario Brothers you can play for about 10 minutes then it gets an error code and you have to reset the wii... As for MW3, Zelda Skyward Sword, and Zumba, they all ask for an update as soon as I try to play (havent tried other games).. when I start the update it gives me error code 32004.... So Im assuming priiloader is still blocking me from doing updates. I have tried to put the hacks back onto my sd card, since I think I need some of them to uninstall priiloader... but when I check it on the wii nothing comes up in the sd.

The hacks should be installed on the wii, no need for them on the card after that. Maybe they didnt finish setting up priiloader. Perhaps startpatch is on there and you will need to uninstall those hacks to enable the update. The problem there is that you need HBC to run startpatch. You can get hbc installed by doing the first part of the softmod any wii guide. Since you need to do that, you may as well just finish the entire guide and have a fully modded wii If you choose to not do the whole guide you will need to get startpatch and just uninstall every hack that is has since you dont know what (if any) that it may have.
