that I don't know... I just updated them both from the "Softmod Any wii" guide. Is there an easy way that I could tell?

One other bit of info... I don't have to launch wiiflow. Actually if I let either wii boot to the hme channel menu, THEN plug in the drive BEFORE running Wiiflow for the first time, wait 5 seconds for it to spin up, the drive will mount.

If you just updated within the last week or two, you are running d2x v7. Has it been that soon? You could run a syscheck to be certain.

where do I get sys check? Looking inside MMM at IOS manager it says 21007, and I recall previously seeing the D2x v7 files in the ios update pack, so that makes sense. any other thoughts?

Literally I updated them both last week while I was on vacation. Had to be monday to wednesday.

a couple of more pieces of data...

    1) I re-enabled the smartware and then disabled it. (confirmed that it actually DID enable) No change in performance. Drive will only mount if plugged in after you're at the main menu screen.
    2) If you have a game loaded, exit to main menu and reload wiiflow, the drive hangs.
    3) If you have a game loaded, exit to main menu, unplug drive, and plug back in, THEN reload wiiflow it mounts and plays just fine.
    4) If you set wiiflow to exit back to wiiflow cover menu instead of wii main screen when exiting, drive hangs upon exit.

So this looks like a drive powering up issue. Also with the other drive which is the EXACT same model #, the drive will mount from OFF, exit to Wiiflow, exit main menu and relaunch wiiflow. This is so bizarre.

Also just tried again swapping cables between drives and confirmed it's not a cable issue. I also just retried all of the scenarios with the old white wii (updated last week) vs. the out-of-the-box new black wii (updated last week) and the FOUR pieces of data from above are true regardless of machine AND cable.

    Thanks!

    I THINK THIS IS KEY!!!

If you do all of the necessary steps above and wait prior to running a game... the game will not load. You unplug, do the necessary steps to mount, and then try the exact same game right away... it loads and plays just fine.

Anybody else think the drive is powering down? Any ideas on how to stop it from doing so?

    Thanks!

Have you tried going to the WD website, updating the firmware, and using the newest utilities to shut off any sort of power saving mode?

EDIT: You could also try going back to d2x v6 to see if that helps.

    DONE and DONE!!!

NET... Do NOT assume that your DRIVE FIRMWARE Update software is accessing the Newest files! I went from v 1.06 to 1.32 with the firmware updater on my PC which DID access the web!!! to 2.03 when I downloaded the LATEST firmware update program from the Western Digital website on my Passport Essential SE 1TB. WDBABM0010BBK-00.

    --CJizzle... thanks bro!

Glad we could help JeepinCJ! May I suggest that you make a post in the USB Compatibility List thread HERE regarding the issues you were having and how they got resolved. This could help other members who end up having the same issues!
