    About to Buy First Wii

So, little late on the wagon, but the wife wants Wii Fit so I'm going to go out and grab one this week.

Obviously, since I'm planning on modding, I'll be looking for a cheap unit without a software bundle (eg sports etc). I saw a special 'Walmart' blue Wii on for $109 CAD which I'm considering but of course want to make sure I can softmod and install an external usb harddrive to handle backups.

Question is, in buying a new Wii, is there anything I should avoid or look out for? I assume any new out of box unit will come preloaded with 4.3?

Thanks guys! I'll keep reading as much as I can on the forums to verse myself better and appreciate any commentary.

I'd buy a used white wii. You can get them real cheap at pawn shops or off of craigslist. They are also safer to mess around with since you can install priiloader as boot2. That's just my two cents.

Ok great. Thanks for the advice.

Just reading that the Blue Walmart ones dont have some ports or something so the nand backup is a problem? I'll look around!

    thanks all!

Picked up a refurb at Eb Games last night. Didn't sleep well, so while wife was sleeping started my mod at about 5am. Happy to report everything running like a champ and the guides here are AMAZING. Now just to get Wii Flow set up to autolaunch and I'll be all set!

    Thanks again!

Just FYI, the blue ones don't have game cube support, which means they don't have game cube controller ports in the back. Thankfully the geniuses who made bootmii will let you navigate their menu with using the power and rest buttons so NAND backup is possible.

Get the forwarder wad for wiiflow, or use the one the guide installed (USBLoader(s)-ahbprot58-SD-USB-v11b-IDCL.wad), load it in priiloader, then in priiloader's settings you can tell it to launch the loaded wad rather than system menu.
