Having Issues Playing Real, Legit Games with a Modded Wii

Hi All,

I recently bought Prince of Persia, the Forgotten Sands at a really nice deal and even though I have a modded Wii now, I'm still a sucker for originals. There is one problem though, I haven't updated my Wii in a VERY long time and it doesn't play originals the way it used to. I'm not sure where the last caretaker of this Wii left his updating at and I have no idea where to start patching up the gaps, so to speak. When I try to play Prince of Persia, it works fine up until the first cinematic sequence where the audio will run fine but the rest of the game is frozen on the last frame before the cinematic starts.

Problems like this also happen with:

Dead Space Extraction - game freeze, unable to load if you press a certain button and forced to pull out the cable from behind the Wii and hard reboot. Will sometimes run without sound...which is bad, considering it's Dead Space.

Any game newer than late 2009 and onwards will have some kind of glitchy side effect to them. I'm so confused and I have no idea where to start to fix this issue. I'll try to the best of my ability to provide any relevant information needed to fix this, though I'll probably need instructions to find them.

Where do I start if I'm missing a few components? I remember the last owner of the Wii telling me that mine was softmodded with an old method which is super risky. He told me that mine doesn't have bootmii, NANDbackup, maybe priiloader...not sure what happened to it. But my Wii will still run old original and burned games and it has HBC installed. Should I start from the beginning of the guide then or still go from the above mentioned heading?
