    Older wii or newer?

I have two wiis and I want to soft mod one and sell the other. One of them was the black sports resort bundle and I would rather keep it. The other is an original wii from when they first came out. In terms of homebrew and other soft modding features, is there any reason to keep the older one?

I would keep the black one too! I've softmodded mine flawlessly (it is the same one with wii sports bundle).

If the older one is from when they first came out, then it is probably boot2 compatible. Which means if you install bootmii as boot2, then you will be able to recover from 99% of bricks. Also the older one most likely can play DVD's. The newer black Wii's don't. The newer one looks cooler. I would change the case and sell the black one in the white case. But that is just me, I have experience taken Wii's apart and have all the tools.

Since usb loading is the thing now I would suggest to keep the new one.. I have never had a boot 2 wii and never bricked..well semi bricked thanks to a bad theme but priiloader saved my butt there just reinstalled the menu. But as stated above..boot 2 will help you recover from 99% o' bricks ..so if you like to tinker n like to mess around with your wii installing this and that ..keep the old one. Good luck!!!

Is it true that original wiis when modded can read dvds as well as copy wii games but the newer ones such as the sports resort bundle one cannot?

    Yes.

Correct, newer wiis are not able to read dvds or play backed up discs. Boot2 is the most appealing part of the older wiis, the ability to read dvd and backed up discs is not that great (IMO)considering there are much better ways to do that via a usb device. Like mentioned above, if you like to tinker with stuff or just like the security of knowing that you are pretty much brickproof...keep the old one. On the other hand, if you advertise the boot2 on as that, you may be able to get more money for it. People who really like to tinker would love to have a boot2 wii.

All wiis can copy original discs to a usb drive. <----that is assuming the wii is correctly modded.
