Nope your only option is a external HDD. Faster loading than disc and so so much better.

Thats a very britishy sentence, and I'm not sure I get it. If you're talking piracy, we're not going to help you. Your drive either can or cant use backups. Check the newbies post in my signature for links. If its a newer (last serveral years) its not going to work with burned media.

says There is a 25% chance the chipset is GC2R-D2A.
And there is also a 25% chance the chipset is GC2-D4 on a smaller drive board.
And a 25% chance the chipset is Combined GC2-D3 with no drive chip.
Lastly, a 25% chance the chipset is GC2-D2B with cut pins and missing third pad.

    There's a 50% you can't read DVD-Rs (D4 + D3 (50%))....and Neogamma even gave you the answer to your problem.

drive date 20081218 drive too new to read dvd-r

Your only alternative is to buy a USB Hard Drive, which is better, faster and more space efficient or buy a new DVD Drive and screw drivers and exchange the drive, which is a bit pointless because if you're spending all that money, why not just get a Hard Drive which would be much more better (faster, saves space and time).
