    updating your wii

If this has been posted before i apologise. my friend got a second hand wii it is running on 4.1e, he did a system format and then he tried to update to 4.3e and it is saying no update available as it already has the most up to date system software, but it still shows as 4.1e. assistance greatly appreciated.

Your friend's wii probably has been softmodded and has a version patched system menu (thats a good thing). Is it not running games?

is there a way to remove a version patched system menu, i assumed formatting the system memory would have done this.

There are no advantages to going to 4.3, all it did was kill homebrew. If you remove the version patch and do an official update, you will not be able to play ANY games from external HDD (not to mention depending upon the setup you could brick your wii). Your best bet would be to use the Softmod ANY Wii guide to get everything up to date.
