I have now begun to attempt to softmod my Wii...

I have system version 4.2U (or is it 4.2u)? Can I even do anything with this, if at all?

The reason I ask is because I downloaded the HackMii installer AND the BannerBomb V2 files and extracted them accordingly, but when I try to load the SD card and select the channel with the ? screen and I choose Start on it, the Wii tells me that "This channel cannot be launched on this Wii console." Am I missing something? Have I forgotten a step or steps? If so, would someone mind helping me out?

EDIT: I got it now, and I have installed the Homebrew Channel. However, the screen just shows bubbles. What do I do now? I just tried to launch BootMii and that blue light that comes on when you put a disc into your Wii, is flashing. What does this mean?

it will probably the way you are formatting the sd card... use fat32 GUI formatter or sdformatter in mauifrogs guide... i had the same prob through ignorance of not using the tools recommended... since making it a ritual it has never failed.
Problem with this place is the tutes are that damn good that one could end up not learning as deep as they should... Dont just rely on the tutorials understand your Wii...

I formatted my SD card before I began this. Now I am at the Homebrew Channel screen (the one with the bubbles). What do I do now?

I know I am a total noob about this and I am currently looking at mauifrog's guide, and it says NOTHING about whether I need to install BootMii or not. On the BootMii menu, here are the options:

    Install BootMii as boot2

    Install BootMii as IOS

    Uninstall BootMii as IOS

    Prepare a SD card

    which one do I select?

EDIT: I chose Install BootMii as boot 2 and it installed the files. Now when I selected Launch BootMii from The Homebrew Channel menu, it has 4 Icons now: The Wii icon, The Homebrew Channel Icon, the SD card icon, and the Settings icon. However, my Wii Remote Will not turn on... Do I need a GameCube controller or a Classic controller?

boot2 if it allows you... otherwise as an IOS... i suggest you do a bit of research on newbie hacking for Wiis (its all there as stick'ys ) so you understand a bit more about what your doing...

many many other first timers get through with out having to be spoon fed each step because they load up on info...

You sir have failed to read. Every question you have posted here is clearly answered in the guide. Take a few minutes to sit back and read the guide from beginning to end first. It may not make a bit of sense at first, but when you start thinking about asking questions like this you will say to yourself "OH! I read about that!".

I was not trying to be annoying. I apologize to you. I am reading the guide, and now I am doing the NAND backup with/for my SD card.

Guilty as charged... :-( However, you can say that I was trying to go along as I read. I just completed Chapter 1 and I am going to start Chapter 2 tomorrow!
