Is Wiikey V1 still good without any soft modding???

    Hi guys,

I've did quite a bit of reading about Wiikey V1 on this forum about reviving the old wii console to play the latest games however I'm struggling to find a thread which confirms if the Wiikey V1 can still be used for new games without moving into soft modding.

I know soft modding can give big advantages such as usb loading etc however all I want to do with the wii is play games i've burned to disk. I'm not interested in online aspects either.

So for the Wiikey V1, I updated to the latest firmware and I also think I mistakenly let the wii update itself when it connected via wifi. wii sports resort is the latest game that works for me and games like super mario bros and epic mickey dont work. i've not tried any more recent games yet.

    Cheers for any pointers.

cheers for the link. I've already been on there and flashed the update but super mario bros still doesn't work and it got me stumped

I tried flashing the firmware update a few times and burned the smb disk a few times but still the same. So wondering if I'm missing something else. I'll have another look but to be honest I'm more interested in newer games and whether wiikey V1 will still work without any soft modding. If the answer is yes, then at least I know I'm on the right track and not wasting time with wiikey when my only option is soft modding

    update:
From the link its states the following which gives me hope of the latest games working with wiikey V1 however I can't seem to get them to work???

Wiikey 1 update v1.99 BETA available!

    [2010.05.29]

A beta release for the original Wiikey 1 modchip is now available in the members area. This update fixes the 3X DVD issue and adds NSMB BCA support. Please be sure to read the readme.txt file contained within the archive and please send feedback to us about how well it works so that we can hurry and make the final release available.

As a Wiikey 1 user, you can now confidently brag to your friends by saying that you own the single longest-supported Wii modchip in the world! Released back in 2007, the original Wiikey 1 modchip is still receiving updates and is fully compatible with the latest copy protection systems. All other Wii modchips from the same era have died and been forgotten, but Wiikey 1 lives on! Thank you for your support in making this happen.

Softmodding over a chip is something a lot of users do. it increases your compatibility.

yeah that's what I see from reading all the posts and if its my only option, I'll go down that route however if I can keep using the Wiikey V1 and just burn games like I did in the past then I would prefer it...

old school for choosing a disk with nice cover art then putting a disk in and playing it also makes it easy for the kids to see what games they have and what ones they want to play before the wii goes on.

the wii is one of the first ones that came out and its always had a wiikey in it.

Then it should be able to play burned media with a soft mod.
