Turn off wiiconnect24 to prevent updates?

Will turning off wiiconnect24 be adequate/enough to prevent my kids (or myself) from indadvertently updating our wii and removing hbc?

If that's not enough, what else should I do to prevent updating?

    Thanks in advance.

Priiloader is definitely the way to go. Once that's installed, go into System Menu Hacks and enable "block disc updates" and "block online updates". Then go down and click "save settings" and you're good to go.

    /This.

As mentioned, it not only blocks updates from NUS, but also the commuNist updates that discs require. It also has other wonderful hacks that allow you to disable that earache loop on the SM.

Blocking updates might prevent some games from running. If your going to block updates, I recommend you follow this guide. It'll make your Wii have what it needs to run any current game including backups of those games and more than what a stock Wii could do.
