3tb ex hdd with 4.3u

My sys: 2011 Wii 4.3u with Gx v2.2 autoboot 2tb Wd 2tb fat32 ex hdd / and a 2009 Wii 4.2u Gx 1.0 Wd 2tb fat32 ex hdd

Well, ive tried it myself and it doesnt work. The 3tb will format as NTFS or exFAT but not fat32 in windows. I put 3 games on the drive with it NTFS as my wii gets hung up "loading usb drive". i need the space and thought i would try it. have done some browsing on the subject, here, there and wherever the keyword would come up and to no avail havent found anyone successfully using it. my 2tb works flawlessly with the exception of a couple games that i cant seem to straighten out the ios' for game load.

if anyone is using it and its working properly i would appreciate the suggested settings and methods otherwise i will return it to the blue box store.

Hi Pipeandwire. I'm sure iv'e read about this on here. You are advised not to try and formatt fat32 on drives bigger than 2tb. I'm sure I have encountered this problem before. I set up with a 1gb fat partition for (apps, CFG, GX, cover images etc:) I put the game files on the NTFS partion in a folder named wbfs, I partitioned the drive Easeus Partition Manager. primary and active. I used Wii Game manager to transfer my backed up files from my smaller drive, To my new NTFS partion. I have music, Movie, and Photo folders on the Drive.
One more thing. Is the drive usb 2.0 or usb 3.0 I have read a few people are having probs with usb 3.0

matrix, thnx for the link. whilst i still read its difficult to get it to fat32 over 2tb i will still give it a shot. gpa, that sounds like a nice backup scenario should it not work getting that file system. ive been running for years at fat32 with a handful of games (VERY VERY minimal nuisances) so if it will work getting to fat 32 i will keep it that way if there arent any problems. not sure how my systems would react to the split partitions and different formats. i have some try to do it, and if all else fails i can still return it.

Well fellas, i was able to get the 3tb hdd formatted fat32 but apparently thats only the first step on the hill. after i set it up, i put a couple of my games on there and copied all my folders from my other ex hdd (wads,apps,images,config,wbfs etc). put it in hoping for the best........ usb loader gx comes up main screen, starting, loading sd card, loading "initialize usb drive" and it hangs up there. im guessing that perphaps the wii itself wont recognize over 2tb? been screwing with it for hours, hitting the sack and will check for any suggestions tomorrow. if i do actually get it i will put up tutorial and links that got it working

LOL, maybe thats why so many people have said "Don't do that"....LOL Hey if you have the patience and ability to get it to work then more power to ya! I would love to read a guide that says how to accomplish this (in less than twelve hours). As a backup plan though I agree with Grandpa1959 in his last post completely. It is an alternative that is not difficult to set up and will get the job done.

HAVE FAITH, i think its an app issue. when copying/pasting folders i interrupted not wanting to load all my original backups. lost my images on original ext. think i copied an old usb backup folder i had. 3tb drive works perfect in/with windows. READ lots of forums saying it couldnt be done to a full drive and we've passed that part. ill give it a shot again tonite.

Wellll BOYS.... its DONE ! 1 game on with 2794.40gb free space. I've tried a 1/2 a dozen times to upload an image but heres a link to it...

Judging from the last two days worth of posts, I believe you and I have an entirely different understanding of the phrase "Simple as pie". :p J/K

Seriously though congrats on getting it done! I assume you have tested the gameplay and all is good? You should make a post in the USB Compatibility List thread with your drive type and model #, and the "simple as pie" steps you took to get it to work. Nice job! :D
