Questions from the new wii owner :D

Hi, I'm new the forums, and I've been reading about Wii modding/hacking. And I was looking but had a couple questions, some that have been answered but I'm not sure if they are up to date or not. Please if you don't mind
I just bought a Wii of my friend, and I'm guessing its softmodded (not too sure?) and it has the Homebrew channel already.

    1. I'm not sure what Wii firmware and IOS it has. Is there a way to find out? and you have to a certain kind of IOS for each different loader correct and which is the best loader for NTFS? What IOS does everyone commonly use?
    2. I read that Homebrew Channel cannot read NTFS HDD's correct? I would need to have a SD card with the loader on it instead?
    3. Would I actually need to format my 500GB Seagate Expansion Drive because I have so much stuff, and I can't transfer off easily without borrowing a friend's external.

I think that is it for now that I can remember but I appreciate all the feedback

    1. Post a system check. The guide is in my signature. Also, read the "Thinking about hacking a Wii" link in my sig to get yourself a better understanding of what is going on.
    2. Cannot read ntfs, correct...have to have an sd, see #3
    3. You could repartition your drive to have a fat32 partition of only 4 or 8 gigs, just enough to load your homebrew.

Correct you will not have to reformat your whole drive. On the ntfs side just make a folder called wbfs and put your games in there. (Might not be a bad idea to defrag it first and consolidate free space before loading games on it.)

Okay I tried to do system check, first with a SD card, it worked once, but the csv file never showed, and i tried again and the sd stopped working so I decided to try my brother usb FAT32 4GB and I said failed to initalize the FAT32 system or something, and said error afterwards.

Since we cant see a syscheck and you don't have much info on the mod, you should re-mod it using the Softmod ANI Wii guide in my signature. Out of date stuff could be causing these issues.

Yes it will. First though very important question: Do you know if darkcorp was installed? It lets you load backup discs from the disc channel.
