Questions about Hermes IOS222 and HD Sleep

I have a Maxtor Onetouch II 300GB. Maxtor is now owned by Seagate and I looked all over the net and their website I could not find a way to disable sleep. They dont provide a utility to disable sleep for my series of Harddrives.

Looking around the net people were talking about HERMES IOS222 prevents sleep from happening? My vague interpretation from what they were talking about. They said its good to use with Uloader.

My question is, is this true?

If not what is IOS222 exactly for?

And there is any solution available to me to prevent my HD from going to sleep?

Another question whatever tells the HD to go to SLEEP is it in the firmware of the actual drive? or is it located in the board of the external drive? (SATA/IDE to USB Board)

Thanks for reading. Hope someone can help.

I do not believe Hermes 222 prevents hdd spin-down.
And there is any solution available to me to prevent my HD from going to sleep?
Not without the utility to disable sleep mode.
Another question whatever tells the HD to go to SLEEP is it in the firmware of the actual drive? or is it located in the board of the external drive? (SATA/IDE to USB Board)
It could be either one to tell the drive to spin-down.

Do a google search for Maxtor OneTouch 4 Lite software. Inside is a program called Maxtor Manager. It will probably tell you that it wasn't designed for your drive, but give it a shot. I have read that some people were able to install it, set the sleep interval to "never", and it fixed their issues. Good luck!

I don't own one myself, but from what I've read around the net, the
Maxtor one touch drives are very troublesome, with a lot of people
having problems with sleep mode, and receiving no help/solution from seagate!
My suggestion would be to get yourself another HDD! Western Digital are the
most compatible in my opinion, but it's always a good idea to check the
    USB compatibility list first!

From what I read it was the original onetouch. Bummer it didnt work for you.... I did a ton of searching myself and couldn't find much. Bmarlo had the best advice in his above post when he said get a WD drive. I have never had any probs with mine and quite a few of my friends use them as well. If purchasing a new drive is out of the question then you better get to googling and hopefully you can find some legacy software somewhere. Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

EDIT: Found an ftp link to legacy software for maxtor. Sent via PM. Let us know if any of them work for you!
