    Question Removing starfall/Softmii

    Hi everyone.

I've just been given a modded Wii which is on 3.2e downgraded from 3.3e. It apparently has starfall and softmii installed, though no SD card came with it.

What I'm wanting to do is upgrade it to 4.3e and "re-homebrew" it with the Letterbomb exploit, mainly to take advantage of USB loading etc.

My main question is: how do I go about removing Starfall / Softmii, as I've heard its a bit dodgy, and return to upto date stock firmware. Can I just update via the official channels or will this result in a brick?

If anyone could shove me in the right direction, point out any pitfalls, or tell me whatever additional info is needed I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks.

starfall is a system menu patch. When a new system menu is installed it will be removed.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

So running an official system menu update will essentially give me a virgin wii again, even with softmii previously installed?

How would I go about doing a reinstall as opposed to an update?

Also just got off the phone to my mate who originally modded it, and he thinks that either CIOSCORP or DARKCORP may be installed. From what I've read I assume this complicates matters somewhat

If your softmod is old enough that you have starfall and softmii then im pretty sure yu have cioscorp.

Theres a guide called remove cioscorp from your console. It works for dark as well.

Thanks, I've just been looking at that whilst trawling through the site. I'll probably attempt to sort it out over the weekend if im feeling brave enough

Again thanks for all the help, nice to see the Wii Homebrew scene is still alive and well

Sorry for the double post, but I've now set aside some time, got a new SD card and im ready to crack on. I have a few questions though justr to make sure I've got everything worked out and I don't have to pester everyone if I brick the wii.

How do I go about reinstalling the system menu? A lot of the info I have read is old with lots of broken links. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also in this guide it says to install priiloader, as preloader will corrupt, which from what I've read was based on Starfall. Are there any special hoops I need to jump through to uninstall starfall before installing priiloader?

Those are the only two grey areas i think I have at the minute, once I feel a bit clearer on them I'll be getting my wii ready

To re-install the system menu, you need to get the version you want from NUSD and install using a WAD manager.

The guide is telling you to install priiloader as brick protection before removing cIOSCORP, or your Wii is at risk of bricking.
