Upgrade HBC from beta9 to newer?

Hi I have a wii that my brother gave me. It came softmodded with the HBC installed. My optical drive is broken so i have to use a usb hard drive (wd My book 2tb). My question is should I follow one of the guides by mauifrog to update my wii and ios files. I do not have a nand backup. Is this something that i need. I'm really scared of bricking my wii because my girlfriend uses it everyday and i cannot afford a new one. Everything is working pretty well, however I cannot get cfg loader to work with a forwarder. It only works from the hbc channel. Also whenever I load the HBC it says a newer version is avaliable to replace the currrent version (beta 9). will upgrading be ok? Oh yes and anouther thing when i use WiiMC it says current ios unsupported, or something like that. Not all the movies i have play and the program seems to crash a lot. I have included a syscheck printout. Please any advice would be helpfull.

Upgrading the HBC will be fine. Whilst your at it, also install bootmii as boot2. From your syscheck, it seems to me that you can install it as boot2. It will make your wii virtually unbrickable (you would need to try really hard to brick it) . Then, make a NAND back-up using bootmii and after that, follow the softmod any wii guide.
Awesome sig picture does not work

After I upgrade the hbc will it prompt me to install as boot2, or is there something I have to do? I have one of the very first white wii released, is that why i can install as boot2?Also why does boot2 make it harder to brick? I'm assuming that the NAND backup is an option in the bootmii app. So assuming I do all this and I have a NAND backup do I then have to make a new NAND backup when i follow the mod any wii guide?

So I installed the new Homebrew made a NAND backup and followed mauifrogs guide. I still get the error on WiiMC that the current ios is unsupported, and when i download the WiiMC channel installer it says i need ios58. I thought that was installed in the guide. am I wrong? what should I do next.

oh and i tried syschecker to see that ios i had installed and it just hung (froze ) the wii. is there a newer version out that i should use. any help would be nice. Thanks. i am using sysCheck v2.0 by Double_A.

So do i have to download ios58 myself and install it. I know how to do that I just thought that it was included in the Mauifrog guide files. and how do you reinstall the HBC again? The syscheck froze saying "Testing IOS vulnerabilities, please wait". and i had to hard reset the wii.

I got the new syscheck file and loaded it up. It froze at the same spot as before. My old version worked I dont know why the new one is acting lame. I have not had a chance to install ios58 yet, do you think this is why syscheck is not working correct?
