Black Screen concerns
If you saw my intro thread I said I love my softmodded wii. First thing I did was rip all my games into ISOs, and enjoying the uber load times.
So far I have had almost no problems at all with it, but I have had 1 - which has manifested some concern in how my wii will perform with Xenoblade. I plan on importing Xenoblade as soon as it's out, and I plan to rip it and play it using the usb loader that comes with the standard guide that everyone uses when they softmod their wii.
My current wii is set up as an NTSC wii. I have several of the apps everyone recommends. I'm writing from work right now, so I can't give the specifics, but maybe specifics aren't needed at this point. I tried to run ToS: Down of a new world (PAL), but I got a black screen, and the game wouldn't start. I ultimately had to rip my own NTSC disc, which ran just fine. This is the only game that has ever given me trouble.
Being a PAL game, I became concerned that I may have trouble running Xenoblade (PAL). I was able to run my PAL version of Super Mario Galaxy 2, so it's not a region issue. I have never had a game freeze while playing, or any other trouble with my softmodded wii. It runs great, and I love it - but a black screen on the bootup of ToS (pal) is a big hiccup in this performance.
Is there an easy fix for typical black screens when games start through the USB loader? What are some of the causes of this kind of black screen?

There are all kinds of guides on this site and an index for problematic games.
Why worry about something you have no idea if it is gonna be a prolem yet or not?
Black screens are usually a cIOS problem!
Go into the game settings and change the ios
it loads from!
I suppose you're right about that. If it turns out that I pop the disc in and it runs just fine, all this is moot. I must say though - I have been _starved_ for good RPGs. This last generation has had fewer good jRPGs than I can count on one hand, and Monolith's Xenogears/Xenosaga games blow my mind. I'll be in tears if it's not working.

I guess this is the best I can do for now: /crosses fingers.
