    Which wii is the best?

    Hello.
Im planning to softmod a wii but havent got one
But a local store have 7 used laying around they want to sell cheep. So I was curious if any of the editions is better then another? Is there something I can check for like serials, or are all wiis generaly as good?

Insted of reading the intire post, here is the conclution of all the pages to come in this post, edited in here. Thank you all that helped me get this far:

Great, then this is the recap for all of you other noobs out there:

The best wii you can get for softmodding is a wii where you can install bootmi as boot2. This wil give it alot more brick protection in the future. Some info here: http://hackmii.com/2009/02/bootmii-and-the-new-boot1/
If you can get one with system under 4,3 that wil be easier, or you wil need to get a hold on one of a handfull original games that wil "soften" your wiis updated defences from 4,3 and up.

You can identify boot2 wiis either by using an SD card and installing bootmii, or you can check the serial list here: http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-new...mber-list.html
Please note that the serial list are ranged so if you dont find your serial and both the serial above and under are green/ok yours should be too(if it hasent been repaird at nintendo at some time)
For more technical specs for serials you can see here, but more specs then help: Wii Drive Chip Database

For more general info and newbie hacking I would read this great guide: http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-new...i-hacking.html
And when you are good and ready, use this guide to softmod your wii, and later on getting and USB drive on it: http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-new...d-any-wii.html

Last but not least, thank the members that help you, and help others back. And if you can, donate a few bucks for the site!

Great advice, so Il check out this then: http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...mber-list.html

Any other things that might be different that I sould note?

To any others after me, the above link should be read not a spesific serial list, but as in intervalls/ranged. So wii serials between green should be green and ok. (Unless they have swapped cards later by nintendo repairs etc)

The wii version to be lower than 4.3 other wise if you have a 4.3 wii you will need one of the listed games in the guide to softmod the 4.3 wii

Wii Drive Chip Database this will tell you what drive you have in your wii to see if it can play backup discs and dvds etc

if you turn the wii on and the blue light flashers twice then you have a boot2 if only once then bootmii as ios

    Great.
    I found 2 of 3 there atleast, seems its a GC2-D2C (v1) and a GC2-D2E(black glue).
The one I dident find was the one with the lowest number. I was thinking the lower the older and thus better chance maybe? But my best and easiest is just to boot them, and se if the light flashes once or twice.

    Il do that.
But if I got you right chief, then its more important that its boot 2. Even if the version is not under 4,3 it can be fixed with the game hack. But if its not boot2 its more of a risk and hasle.

as long as you have priiloader that can get you out of certain bricks, and make sure you have a nand backup so if you do brick and all the option to try to unbrick it dont work then the nand backup will save you but you need a nand programmer to flash it for you. im one of the unluck ones i have bootmii as ios but i have priiloader installed and a nand backup
