NTSC-J gamecube backups on American wii?

Is it possible to play NTSC-J gamecube backups on a US wii? My wii is 3.2U, softmodded, all hooked up. I tried to get a backup of my Zelda Collector's Edition (J) to work using Gamecube Backup Launcher and it loaded, but when I select any of the games at the main menu it crashes. I want to try Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (J) but I want to make sure this is possible before I waste a DVD to back up my original copy. So bottom line: burned NTSC-J gamecube games. Will they work on my American Wii?

If you can force NTSC-U, then yes (not required with an HDTV).
